HTC invests $40 million in OnLive

According to the official announcement made by HTC, they have paid about $40 million to Onlive. This sum has been formed from 5.33 million shares that HTC bought each for $7.50.

OnLive is going to offer server-based games for different platforms which will disrupt traditional game retailers and game consoles. It also promises to provide abilities for playing HD games on mobile devices. And as HTC is one of the fastest-growing smartphone maker,l we can expect many awesome HTC handsets with this functionality.

OnLive is growing very fast too: the company released on the PC in June, than its products spread to the TV screen via a MicroConsole adapter in December, a month after it announced it would be built into Vizio TVs. Currently the company is preparing to launch its games on HTC devices. According to the rumors the HTC Evo will be able to play OnLive games.

OnLive offers instant gratification with its games-on-demand service, this means users could log on and play HD games without the need of downloading anything. They wouldn’t also need any high-end device for it. As OnLive focuses on digital distribution of games, many retailers like GameStop can suffer from this deal.

Though we talk about this company for the first time, but it cooperates with such investors like Warner Bros., Autodesk, Maverick Capital, AT&T, British Telecommunications and The Belgacom Group. It was founded nine years ago and has about 200 employees. As the company comes with revolutionary projects the investors valued it last year at $1.1 billion. Nobody knows how much its value is now after HTC began to cooperate with OnLive.
