Top 5 Google Phones launched so far

Year 2009 was  a good one for Android. Of course, it is yet too early to talk about any huge impact from search giant Google on mobile phone market, as the number of Android run phones isn’t too many and each of the mobile manufacturers have released many other smartphones during this year. But trend shows growth. More and more manufacturers  launch  or plan to develop Android run devices, so and the list for ’10 will be limited not to 5 but out of all that phones – 10 will be hard to choose.

In this article we will not discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the Android platform, or compare it with platforms existing and newly appearing on the horizon of the mobile industry. We made a list of the most interesting devices of the year based on Google, which includes phones from HTC, Samsung, and Motorola and of course HTC has a leading role here.

1. T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream)
The first phone based on Google Android platform launched back in 2009 was not a clod. However, by modern standards, its specs appear to be unconvincing. Nevertheless, there are features that will interest a user. This includes a quality 3.2-inch display, full set of communications and wireless interfaces, GPS, a measure of frolicsome hardware platform (based on the processor Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz) and 3.2-megapixel camera. Of course, the phone is also equipped with Google Apps and the hardware QWERTY-keyboard.

All this may seem outdated in the background of the current top models. But the most importantly is the fact that the HTC Dream (née HTC Omni) and its operator version of T-Mobile G1 were the first real and properly working devices on the new platform. It should be noted that T-Mobile G1 is tuned for use in networks of this operator, but the manufacturer has also released a special version – Android Dev Phone: 1.

2. HTC Hero
HTC Hero can be called the representative of an entirely new generation of devices based on Android 2.
First and foremost interesting feature of the phone is the HTC Sense UI. The experience gained while working with Windows Mobile smartphones, has been successfully transferred to a new software environment. Sense allows you to personalize the device to best suit your needs: this incudes the creation of profiles, and a variety of widgets. HTC Hero will surprise users with a 5-megapixel camera, 3.2-inch screen, all communication and interfaces, ubiquitous GPS, 3,5-mm audio jack. The phone is equipped with not the most productive platform for these days from Qualcomm, along with a small amount of memory, and has lower screen resolution.

3. Samsung i7500 Galaxy
Samsung is also one of those top companies in the mobile market that was eager to test Android. They have already began selling their first google phone Samsung i7500 Galax, which turned out to be pretty successful.
Samsung has intorduced a stylish and a gorgeous touchphone with AMOLED-display (the screen resolution is 320×480 pixels) and 8 GB of memory on board. Other specs are the same as the ones of HTC Hero – the same hardware platform, a set of communications, 5-megapixel camera and so on. The design of i7500 is typical for Samsung. Some users will appreciate the standard navigation keys – which are absent in the most products of HTC. But the standard interface of Google Android is disappointing: Sense of HTC Hero is still beautiful. Actually, these two devices – Samsung i7500 and HTC Hero – will compete for the title of best google phone of the year, and it is difficult to say which one will win.

4. HTC Tattoo
Along with such top models as HTC Hero and Samsung i7500, the Android market had room for budget models, such as HTC Tattoo.
The device is notable not for its outstanding performance, as the parameters of the smartphone are more than average. It has a small 2.8-inch screen with a low resolution of 240×320 pixels, rather weak 3.2-megapixel camera. However, there was a place for GPS, Wi-Fi, even for the  HTC Sense UI, which has raised the interest of users. Another significant feature of the device is the ability to personalize the look of the smartphone through color replacement panels – “tattoos”.
It would be wrong to assume that only HTC drew attention to the segment of low-cost mass models. Samsung appeared here as well, presenting his vision of the budget google phone Samsung i5700.

5. Motorola DEXT
Other manufacturers also surprised their fans. For example American Motorola, is slowly coming back after a protracted crisis. Inexpensive QWERTY-device based on Google Android platform, Motorola DEXT, along with other products is designed to improve the situation of the company.
In terms of hardware capabilities, the phone is nothing extraordinary – QWERTY-keyboard (the device is made in the side-slider form factor), 3-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, GPS, Wi-Fi, support for all-band GSM, 3, 5-mm audio jack on the case.
An interesting feature of this unit is an add-on interface operating called MOTOBLUR. The UI designed for users that can enjoy  whole list of  social networks. It is a launcher, changing the standard interface of Android, with a greater ability to synchronize user data between the various services such as Facebook, Gmail and others.

no surprise considering who probably sponsored the article. I currently have the storm 1st gen. and have been really disappointed with its performance, durability, lack of decent apps and slow software upgrades. I intend to get the DROID unless something else comes out that will be better, but have to wait until my current contract is finished and it wont cost me a fortune. So far the DROID really does it for me..and the reviews have been spectacular, albeit a few whiners who want to nit pick insignificant concerns.

    anyway,,,,,,,,it is good...

but it seems blogger did not make much research,, and just make the list by his own views..

Like the many posts above, I too agree that the Droid deservesa spot there, if not at the top. That despite me having a HTC Magic.
  • Gaurav
This post was written by "AllHTC", no surprise there's no mention of DROID.
Clearly this post was sponsored/paid for by HTC. I guess there's a law against doing this kind of act without disclosure.

correction: the G! came out in 2008

if we're gonna call this "Top 5 Google Phones launched so far", the Droid absolutely belongs here.
  • mike
Why did the Droid not make the list?
  • Rudimentary
Where in the world is the Droid? The Droid is like the second coming in the American industry, and it's not listed?
  • m@
Uh, if DROID isn't on here this list is worthless. Can't say I'm surprised since the site is called htcphones.net and three of the top five are HTC units.
  • e cig
Wow.... awesome phones will definitely check them out,.
  • james
that's BALLSHIT the HTC magic is best :P
  • Lancelot
I guess with not one of these having a screen size that matches the iPhone (3.5") screen they must not be concerned with those of us who don't have 20 / 20 vision & can't read the very small font that's been used in most of these offerings. I love the Android OS but eye aches & headaches over ruled me keeping my G1. Got to give Apple credit they didn't mess around with these stupid 2.8" screen & every phone offered so far has a nice large screen & good resolution.
