What another fake Nokia N8 ready to send you greetings from China, this time in the face HTC EVO 4G.

But this is not the case when we face counterfeit brands Nokla or Blockberry, it is – high-quality forgery, which, at least in the pictures, it is difficult to distinguish from the present sample. Looking closely you see the brand HTC, but not any HTK or HTQ, the right operator logo of Sprint, and even externally the device is almost completely a clone of EVO 4G.

But when getting closely acquainted with the device, it immediately becomes clear that there is something wrong. Judge for yourself: the Chinese have decided that Android OS is strictly not suitable for EVO 4G, therefore, suggested that the gadget will function on Windows Mobile OS of version 6.5.

Another disappointment for the future owners is the technical component of the device. This phone does not have an 8 megapixel camera,is not possible to record video as 720p (HD), no HDMI connector and lots of other things. But you get the device with a 4.3 inch screen and a resolution 480 X 800 points, but at the same time this is one of the best Chinese counterfeits we’ve seen so far.

The HTC Corporation – the company formerly known as High Tech Computer Corporation – is a Taiwanese manufacturer of smartphones. They are deemed to be incredibly innovative and creative in their approach to develop the world’s best smartphones and are now emerging as real superpower, alongside Apple and Blackberry.

The company started out by making smartphones based on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile software, but in 2009, it moved away from this approach, and began developing phones that were based around Google’s Android operating system. Many experts in the industry regard this partnership as a ‘super team’ of innovation. HTC is also a member of the OHA (Open Handset Alliance), which is essentially a group of handset manufacturers and mobile network operators dedicated to advancing the Android mobile platform and the Alliance are obviously great rivals of Apple and Blackberry.

The Android operating system essentially came from nowhere a few years ago, and surprised Apple and co with its innovative and advanced technology. It was HTC’s Dream model that was first to use the Android mobile device platform – being released in the USA on September 23rd 2008. It was known as the HTC ‘G1’ in many countries, including the UK, and was available in such countries only a few days after its American release. It has since been made available in countries such as Australia and Singapore, and is still a good seller due to the fact that the Android software can be updated when new versions are released, so there is less emphasis placed on upgrading the handset.

On February 17, 2010, Fastcompany.com ranked HTC as the 31st most innovative company in the world. After garnering much support and several awards, HTC are rumoured to be developing their own operating system to compete with Apple’s iPhone OS, Google’s Android, and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7, however, this is yet to be confirmed.

If you’re looking for a new HTC handset, then why not check out Dialaphone.co.uk where you can see all the latest top offers on new HTCs like the HTC Desire and you can purchase it online.

Despite the fact that in recent years HTC has released many successful devices running on Android operating system, the company is not going to stop cooperation with Microsoft. According to HTC CEO Peter Chou, the use of Windows Mobile software platform continues to be one of the most promising areas of smartphone market development.

“Our commitment to Microsoft has never changed,” said Peter Chou at the exhibition Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It is true though that then an unequivocal explanation was given, saying that the company is “very committed to Android as well. We are very long-term committed to those two.”

There is no doubt that real actions tell us much more than beautiful words, and the products from HTC in the next few months will be a true indicator of the balance of power between two competing software platforms for mobile devices.

If you are thinking that having an 8 megapixel camera and a 4″ touch screen makes any smartphone great, then you are wrong. Nowadays successful smartphones are determined firstly by their OS – better UI, more apps, easy to use and of course reliability built on latest hardware platforms.

Apple may be the game changer in the Smartphone industry, but it seems like Android will turn out to be the leader (we judge about it from the following 5 points). The arrival of Apple and Google into the mobile industry was quite unexpected but their leadership has already made them the top competitors in the market. As a result, previous brands such as Symbian and Windows Mobile are already losing the most part of their market shares. Why are we seeing such change in the trend?

The change in the trend is the result of consumer’s rising expectations from Smartphone. Previously considered to be the only device for corporate professionals, has now turned into a fashion statement and a gadget of geeks. Android and iPhone became a cult similar to iPOD, and has already become an identity of the people. In this competing environment, Microsoft is finding it hard to stand as a strong brand. Much of Microsoft’s failure comes from their reluctance to innovations and being the leader of the industry. Leaving iPhone behind, which has already gained 30% of the market share; it’s more reasonable to compare the Windows mobile with the new Android Phones.

So what are the advantages of Android over Windows Mobile? Here are the five key points, which make Android a better choice than Windows Mobile. It doesn’t sound fair to compare devices with respect to technologies because they can be upgraded and improved with time. Hence, it might be better to look at them with respect to their business and consumer values. Here are my fives.

1. Open Source Platform

The strongest point of Android is its Open Source Platform. Open software community is one of the largest communities that have been leading the industry and their mere presence makes the technology better. Android is based on Linux kernel whereas Windows mobile is based in Windows CE.

Open platform ensures continuous innovation and fairness in the product. Large support groups will always be present to help customers to figure out their problems and solving the issues. It also confirms large repository of knowledge which will allow each individual to put some of his/her effort in making the technology lot better.

On the other hand, Windows Mobile is similar to Windows and has a lot of legal bindings. Windows may have led the industry due to their initial domination but the current situation is quite different and changing. It’s a new field with new challenges and we have many great companies in the market which have potential to gain the highest place on the leadership. Unless Windows Mobile understands the importance of consumer’s demand, it has less possibility of increasing its market share.

Further, the increasing awareness of consumer over open platform will certainly promote Android. Hence its Android has a great PR value over Windows Mobile.

2. Android Apps Market

Smartphone is all about third party applications and applications developer. The new way to lead the industry is by increasing the developer base of Operating System because an OS without an application is not of a big value to the consumers. In the forefront Apple, with its app store, is sheltering more than 80 thousand applications. Blackberry has only about 1 thousand applications and Windows Mobile have only around 800 applications. Despite their effort to increase their applications in their store they have failed to do so. On the other hand, Android which is only in its infancy has already gained around 2 thousands applications.

Despite Windows leadership for some years they failed to grasp the potential of application store and were reluctant to provide them to users. But Apple changed this bag tradition. Though Windows finally made their Windows Market Place live they are too late in the game.

The developers are already starting to prefer Android due to its potential and openness. It can be inferred that due to their association with Open Software, Android is bound to be more popular among the hardcore developers. This provides a great opportunity for the consumer to take advantages of new application and technology.

3. Google Power Products (Google Voice and Google Maps)

The most important part of Android is its association with Google. Google has a long history of innovation and dominance over the internet. On the other hand, Smartphone has become more than just a communication device, it has become a portal to access internet, and there is no better company that Google to lead the way. Within months of its launch, Google has already brought groundbreaking innovations in the field of mobile computing with its Google Maps and its integration over internet.

Google Voice, an Internet based voice communication, is a revolutionary way through which people can communicate over the internet lines. Though it was rejected by Apple, it has become a major application for the Android phones. On the other hand, besides long dominance of Windows Mobile in Smartphone, they were unable to bring any such applications that would be rather fresh to gain more enthusiasm of the customers. As Google is involved, it’s obvious that it will aggressively promote Android’s application to be highly compatible with web content. This makes a fair bet to choose Android over Windows Mobile.

4. More Hardware Platforms

When it comes to operating System, it’s all about its acceptance from the mobile device maker. As Apple controls its OS with its iPhone, it will be rare to see any other device maker using iPhone OS. This is one area where other Operating Systems players could find its place. Initially many device markers adopted Windows Mobile but slowly they are moving towards the usage of the Android.

Currently Windows Mobile has around 13 different mobile manufacturers including LG, HTC (it also has already launched top Android phones), Sony Ericsson etc, whereas Android has around 18 to 20 companies including some of the top PC makers Dell and Acer.

5. Increasing market Share

Lastly, it’s all about being in the trend. Would you choose a technology that is not performing well in the market?

After the arrival of iPhone and Android, Windows mobile and Symbian have seen major falls in their market share. Research shows that Windows Mobile lost 70% of their market share though its newer version of Windows Mobile 6.5 is still struggling in the market. Symbian, the other major OS for majority of mobile on the other hand held devices saw 29% fall in the market Share. Symbian is Nokia’s own Mobile OS.

Currently, new Android powered Motorola Smartphone, Droid, has smashed the sales record by 250 thousand sales in the 1st week of its launch. This is a significant achievement for a new OS that establishes Android as a major player in the industry.

Ending Thoughts

Besides all the advantages of Android over Windows Mobile, there are some segments of users who are comfortable with Windows mobile due to its stability and their enterprise solution. Further, Microsoft is due to release its Windows Mobile 7 which might work on their weakness and become better.
Right now if you are looking for something that is at the tip of technology trend that Android is the operating system. It has great future if they keep their innovation cycle running continuously.

But as it’s clear that such Firefox mobile OS won’t be able to compete with already existing OS of Google company.

For now the main features of this Firefox mobile are things like it supports geolocation and direction oriented features, multitouch displays, haptic feedback, Electrolysis, JetPack, WebGL, and the ability to control a camera.

So according to the rumors Firefox is planning to have a new Windows mobile version for the upcoming year. The main work over the development of the OS is already done but everything needs to be tested for a proper operation.

Also there are some talks about another possibility that Mozilla will be launching Firefox Mobile for the Android OS, but there are no current news about it.

It seems that it’s time for Microsoft to start worrying about its presence in the market of mobile operating systems. The percentage of companies are relatively small and now one of the major manufacturers of mobile phones that run Windows Mobile, the HTC company, is going to significantly reduce the number of devices with the OS. Perhaps, HTC is the most successful producer of communicators with Windows Mobile, so that its rejection of Microsoft products may have serious repercussions for it.

According to DigiTimes, a Taiwan resource with reference to reliable sources, HTC is planning to increase the number of devices using Android OS, and in 2010 they should be in the portfolio of the manufacturer for more than 50%. They already make first steps in this direction and in the range of its devices HTC already has about 30% of devices with operating systems from Google.

While operators of cellular communication network are testing 3G, gradually covering more and more regions of Russia, Moscovites are deprived of this type of connection. Fast wireless internet is available to subscribers of SkyLink. And then Skartel company comes to the market, which under Yota brand name provides access to Mobile WiMAX Internet technology. HTC MAX 4G communicator has become the first mobile phone that supports this technology.

Package Contents
Communicator kit is the same as the HTC Touch Diamond’s – cut from the sides side it has a form of a pyramid. In the set you can find:

Network adapter

USB Cable

The protective film on the screen

CDs with software and user manual

Spare stylus

Stereo adapter 3.5 mm

Appearance
In terms of design, MAX 4G is the successor of Touch Diamond. It is derived from the angular shape communicator. Dimensions are (113.5 × 63.1 × 13,9 mm) close to the Touch HD (115×62.8×12 mm), a little bit thicker and wider, but shorter. The weight is slightly more than a MAX 4G: 151 grams to 147. Differences in the design are equally divided between users: someone like rounded Touch HD, someone – cornered MAX 4G.

The front side is easily covered with fingerprints; the protecting film helps with this – it covers not only the screen but the keys under it. A glossy upper and lower ends are covered with rubber plastic. Dimensions of the Communicator allow it to be quite comfortable in the hand. It’s difficult to place in the jeans pocket and it is better to be carried in your bag or belt holster, which must be purchased separately.

As with other HTC communicators, starting with the Touch Diamond, a magnet slot stylus is used, which allows it automatically engage at a distance of approximately a centimeter when inserting. When extracting it the screen automatically switches and the keyboard is unlocked. Wihle conversation the application also automatically starts, which allows writing notes by hand – this saves a few seconds. Despite the fact that the device does not support the 3G-network, there is a camera on the front screen. It is used for video services via IP-telephony, it is declared by the operator Yota, but has not yet been implemented.

Keyboard

Like Touch HD, the new unit has a minimum of keyboard keys, and they are rather sensory than motor. These are the keys of reception and hanging up, and the “HOME” exit button to the home page. Pressing the button is accompanied by vibration. Sensitive touch buttons zone starts below the border of your screen, so the false alarms by pushing the lower number of buttons on the screen does not arise.

There are three additional buttons: turn off button on the upper end – it is responsible for the inclusion of off-screen, and the volume control on the left side of the packaging. Buttons are narrow and long, as in other new models from HTC. They are pressed quite easily. A separate camera button is missing, again, in accordance with the latest trends from HTC.

Display
The screen is exactly the same as of Touch HD – 3.8 inches. It is the main advantage of Communicator. The screen resolution is also high, WVGA (800×480 points). This provides excellent picture quality, despite the fact that Windows Mobile still has valid restriction on the display of 65536 colors. There is no distortion of colors. Stated on a glass screen cover, which should provide a strong mechanical resistance in practice, the screen scratches easily; we recommend using a protective film.

Camera
In the formal characteristics of the device we do not have an exact resolution of the camera. There is a cryptic text “Camera is of High Definition”, on the main body there are also no inscriptions. In practice, maximum resolution is 2048×1536 pixels that is 3 MT. There is also a widescreen mode, in which the picture is cropped vertically – 2048×1216 pixels, these images come as wallpapers, they are easy to view on communicator’s screen.

The quality of images is adequate for viewing on-screen and sending via MMS, or upload to your blog. For printing only photos taken in sunny weather are suitable – in the dark image the quality noticeably decreases.

Software
The Operating System is Windows Mobile 6.1, but the efforts of the developer will be subjected to very substantial changes. The shell of Touch Flo 3D is already used in communicators Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. We recommended reading the review of Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system, the review of the new functions of WM 6.1, and the review of Shell Touch Flo 3D.

You can write your calendar events on the main page. There is no need to use the vertical scroll. The “Browse” has the choice of a specific number of contacts, for those who have recorded a few numbers there is also the option of sending SMS-messages. Click on the weather forecast, the weather of the following four days is shown under current projections, but not in a separate window. It also displays the current local time in this city.

Communications
To connect a wire accessories use corporate port ExtUSB, which allows you to connect charger and cables with a regular plug Mini-USB, as well as branded accessories like headsets or video, Wireless connection through Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b / g) or Bluetooth. The latter has the support of EDR and A2DP, which means the possibility of fast file transfers and support for wireless Stereo. Office of Communications is made through the program CommManager.

Communicator supports GSM / GPRS / EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz, Mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) 2,5-2,7 GHz networks. Big screen is perfect for viewing web sites.

It is not possible to use Bluetooth when WiMAX is activated. It also reduces the speed of data transmission.

The company HTC has developed strong activity for the production of Android-smartphone, and less than a year ago, presented three major products (T-Mobile G1, HTC Magic and HTC Hero). This situation has caused a lot of controversy about how the further relations with HTC Microsoft will develop, and will the Taiwanese manufacturer of Windows Mobile support this step.

John French, an official representative of the HTC in the UK and Ireland announced: “Until the end of the year we will be releasing products based on the two software platforms. We certainly do more to contribute to the development of Android, but from our side it will be foolish to throw WinMo-direction, where we are leaders “.

Thus, in the near future Android and Windows Mobile platforms will peacefully co-exist within the line of HTC Communicators.
