How to Disable Sense User Interface

HTC HD2 – Most Impressive Smartphone with Windows Mobile

The first feedback from the users about the new device from HTC HD2 is quite contradictory.

Some users note the large number of new features, the processor with the capacity of 1 GHz and the revolutionary devices of this class of RAM – 448 MB. Others complain of larger sizes and simple design.

Instructive feedback about this device was given by one of the owners of iPhone: “This is how should the next generation iPhone look like.” In fact this is already something to pay attention to.

HTC HD2 is something special and different from the offers of both HTC and also other companies. The dimensions of the smartphone are 67 x 121 millimeter, with the thickness of only 11 millimeters – this is a rather unusual decision. The body of the phone is smooth and pleasant to touch. Buttons occupy very little space at the bottom, the greater part falls on a touch screen with a diagonal of 4.3 inches and a resolution of 480 × 800 pixels.

Of course, we should take into consideration that all of the three smartphones are similar only in one main feature; all of them are touch phones and are the flagships of each of the manufacturers. Everything else we will compare are just differences:

Camera
The winner in this category was the smartphone from Nokia. The camera of Nokia N97 has Carl Zeiss optics and autofocus, which is much faster than the quality of a three megapixel Phone 3GS and 3.2 megapixel camera of HTC Touch Pro2. By the way, a Nokia camera is always of a better quality. Besides the fact that the camera of the iPhone is without flash, it also reduces the quality of images in the dark or under artificial light.

Loading Time
HTC Touch Pro2 was the last one to turn on. The first was iPhone 3GS. The loading time of the HTC phone is, most likely, the longest because of the equipped operating system. For comparison, we can take the time it takes for the computer to start up. Even the processor with a clock speed of 528 MHz does not save the situation.

Speed of browser

Here we clearly see the advantages of the Safari browser, which is established on the iPhone. Speed of loading the same sites was quite distinct on the three phones. Perhaps, because of slow connection or problems with Wi-Fi so it took so long for the phone from HTC to load the page. Nokia N97 again shows the average results.

Interface

Dopod T8388 Qilin – HTC’s First Smartphone to Support the Standard TD-SCDMA

Not surprisingly the Chinese market looks very promising for all the manufacturers of mobile phones, so in recent years, many of them create devices that support networks of the standard TD-SCDMA. The company recently announced a Nokia phone, the Nokia 6788, and now the Taiwanese company HTC announced the smartphone Dopod T8388 Qilin to become its main competitor.

HTC Sense: A New Generation Interface

The start was very common and usual: HTC smartphones based on Windows Mobile were no different from other devices, except the badge of the manufacturer and design. However, over the time, differences began to appear shortly – with each new device different programs, plug-ins for the Today screen and small utilities were added in HTC smartphones.

The breakthrough was the announcement of HTC Touch Diamond and the new company membrane, the TouchFLO 3D. The interface of the smartphone was welcomed by users, and Diamond eventually became one of the mass products. This is, of course, thanks largely to TouchFLO.

Its first versions were subject to constant criticism and fortunately due to healthy one. It was said that developers paid too much attention to design, while functionality was on the second place. But over time the shell was rather improved, and the critics fell silent. Yes, TouchFLO 3D remained clumsy and overloaded with animation, but at all though functionally it is ahead of all existing interfaces for Windows Mobile.

Now, it’s time to say goodbye to this older shell. HTC has a new interface with higher quality. The successor is named HTC Sense, and the first time it appeared on the device HTC Hero – the second HTC device with the Android operating system.

SEVEN IN ONE
The interface is first viewed by their appearance. In this regard, HTC Sense is surprisingly simple, it is not impressing, as it was a couple years ago with TouchFLO 3D. It’s doesn’t have the same smooth and sharp animation, multiple transition effects between screens, and other excesses. New shell is mainly sustained for Android style – not mottled and bright, and very similar to the standard form of the system.

The desktop in Sense is divided into seven separate screens; each of which can add widgets to Google. There are total of about 10 widgets, plus 15 brand widgets of HTC. Thus, a lot of additional modules can be added to the screens: the weather, bookmarks, clocks, calendar, stock quotes, photos.

You can put any items on any of the seven screens. In addition, branded widgets from HTC, you can choose not only the type of content (weather, stocks, etc.), but also in size. Standard on-screen QWERTY-keyboard in Android is too simple. You can get used to it, but it just can not be named handy. HTC Sense has a much better keyboard, which works not only in the vertical, but horizontal display mode.

Intelligent Keyboard of HTC Sense, as a rule, guesses the words you enter, even if you make two or three mistakes apparently.

Additional symbols are the trouble of any small keypad. In Sense this problem is solved as usual and elegantly – if you want to put a colon or parentheses, there is no need to switch for the special characters input mode. If you hold one of the buttons, another sign is written instead of a letter.

Keyboard of HTC Sense is noticeably better than the standard one. It stores the words and then offers them with input.

SOCIAL NETWORKS AND SERVICES
Android, like the iPhone OS, is an operating system, tightly tied to Internet services. In addition to email clients and contacts, which interact with related projects of Google, there are a couple of interesting possibilities.

• Full-screen widget to work with Twitter
• Video clips can be downloaded to Twitter, and you can send them by mail

For example, each contact can be connected to a profile in Facebook social network.
There is a widget to work with Twitter blog. It can take either the whole screen, or half, and shows the last message from the tape. Reduced version of the widget allows you to only send Tweets.

The photos taken by the camera can be sent not only by mail, but also sent to Twitter, uploaded to Picasa, Flickr or Facebook. This list of features is not found on any platform.

CONCLUSION
Today it is difficult to imagine a HTC smartphone running based Windows Mobile without the TouchFLO 3D. Many users do not even know that their Diamond or Touch Pro runs on any operating system, but know perfectly well that this is HTC. The company wants to do the same trick with the Android: to bring TO the system maximum of their innovations. It can’t be said that HTC managed to do this with the Hero, yet this is the first device with Sense, which is far from perfect. But the software of the HTC is already very strong. Of course, the interface Sense as not perfect, but it has radically changed the experience of using Android OS.

A lot of interesting and attention worthy smartphones and cell phones both for Windows Mobile 6.5, and for Google Android were recently presented at CTIA in Las Vegas. Here is the list of the 10 most interesting of them.

Samsung Moment
This is the second phone from Samsung, announced at CTIA. Before this, the Samsung Behold II was presented at the exhibition. Samsung Behold II is similar to its predecessor of the first generation, and because of this, the keyboard of the device is not quite as comfortable. The smartphone has a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, as well as Wi-Fi-module.

HTC Pure
This phone is a significant improvement of its predecessor Touch Diamond. The new device has a more advanced technical features, sophisticated design and new features that are supported by Windows Mobile 6.5.

There is a traditional minimalism in design. Only a few buttons are available on the surface of the device and there is no physical keyboard. You can manage your phone using the touch screen of 3.2 inches with a resolution of 800×480 pixels.
HTC Pure is running Windows Mobile 6.5. Unfortunately, the phone does not have multimedia functions inherent to the mobile platform. Also, there is certain slowness in the work of the applications.

HTC Touch Pro 2

HTC New Interface

If you think that the proprietary interface HTC Sense is almost perfect in terms of intuitiveness, ease of use and original interactive design, then you are almost right.

But does this mean that developers of HTC can safely sit down and take a rest on the laurels of glory, rejoicing, a popular mobile device with the friendly user interface?

Of course, no! Specialists of HTC have already started working on a new unique interface, and even already filed an application to have his patent. It is still unknown what will the new interface be called, but it is very similar to the “virtual book”, where each page is considered to be a new application.

This method is supposedly very easy to use, like its counterpart – the real book. Leafing through the pages of the interface, look for the right applications and information in a virtual book, is as comfortable as on the lists of real books. Functionality, intuitiveness and saturation of animated and graphic elements of the new interface will not lag behind previous versions of HTC.

Although judging by the screenshots, one would assume that the new shell is designed for any tablet or an electronic book from HTC, but director Peter Chou dispelled all these assumptions, stating that this interface is preparing to replace the HTC Sense and TouchFlo 3D. Judging by the fact that the shell is already in the development stage, in the coming years we can expect new smartphones of HTC production with this new interface.
