Which brand and which handset will get the first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update? This is what we strive to learn. But while each of us is giving preference to his favorite devices, “smarter” users find other ways to discover the truth — they simply ask HTC and get answers. Twitter user @DEANYBOY70 asked the manufacturer whether his HTC Sensation XE (UK) will get ICS update and if yes, then when. The vendor answered the mentioned phone would definitely receive ICS update early this year, but the details were not disclosed.

Well, let’s hope HTC will keep its promise and the Sensation XE will get the abovementioned update within the promised period. But what about the US version of the phone, the Amaze 4G? As you know the latter is launched via T-Mobile and the last leaked document revealed the carrier’s plans to no longer offer this handset. In this regard, I see no sense in the fact HTC has been working on an update for a device, which wears an end-of-life status in T-Mobile’s inventory.

The company’s earlier official announcement mentioned other handsets expected to get ICS update as well. Among them were the Rezound, Sensation 4G, Evo 3D, Evo Design 4G and the Amaze 4G.

When there are more questions and almost no answers it’s hard to make right conclusions. But one thing is clear — the HTC Sensation XE will soon get ICS.

A doc was leaked showing the “nearing EOL” status is applied to a list of T-Mobile devices. The list includes the following HTC and LG devices: the HTC Sensation 4G, the HTC Amaze 4G, the LG DoublePlay, the LG myTouch Q and the LG myTouch.

The decision is somewhat reasonable for the three LG devices, but the life of the HTC devices can be prolonged. The main explanation can be the decision to replace current 4G handsets with upcoming HTC devices.

Mobile World Congress 2012 is just around the corner, which means we can expect the launch of the HTC Ville. In all probability, it will land on T-Mobile as soon as it’s officially announced. What we know about the phone is, it will be the slimmest HTC device. The launch of the HTC Endeavor is not excluded either, though the carrier is yet not announced. So don’t you think the two phones will be removed to be replaced with these two high-end Android handsets? For my part I hope yes, otherwise many consumers will accuse the carrier of an unreasonable move.

T-Mobile has two Windows Phone-powered devices in its inventory, the HTC Radar 4G and the Nokia Lumia 710. Both handsets have managed to become very popular, though the latter was launched recently, while the HTC Radar 4G has a three-month history. Now let’s put aside all secondary factors and focus on their key features as both smartphones have something to boast of.

Recently there were talks the Radar 4G could win the Best smartphone 2011 nomination. These talks were in no way groundless especially if we consider that compared with last year’s models the Radar 4G is the fastest Windows phone handset. In its turn, the Lumia 710 managed to become public’s favorite, it’s currently a 5 star handset at T-Mobile with 56 user reviews.

Before you push the play button and watch the two-part phone fight video provided by PhoneDog (link 1, link 2), I want to remind you the phones are now available at T-Mobile. The Radar 4G is offered for $99.99, while the Nokia’s novelty — for $49.99. I don’t want to eclipse Nokia Lumia 710’s fame and features, but perhaps the pricing policy has played a great role on its popularity. Don’t you think so?

US fourth biggest carrier T-Mobile has a list of awesome smartphones, but not all of them are popular. Moreover, some of them are lost in the crowd, but we can’t say the same for the HTC Radar 4G — a mid-range smartphone, which can seem a loser at first sight. However, I have “disappointing” news if you think there are more high-end smartphone owners than mid-range and low-end ones — Canaccord Genuity has released a report showing the HTC Radar 4G is on the third place in T-Mobile’s inventory in terms of popularity and sell rates.

The data doesn’t refer to the whole year, but only to the November-December (2011) period. The Radar 4G is the third highest rated smartphone at T-Mobile scoring 4.8 points out of 5 with 106 reviews. The first and the second places belong to the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Nokia Lumia 710.

As for the selling numbers, the HTC Radar comes third after the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Amaze.

Evidently, Windows Phone smartphones are very popular in the US, so the Taiwanese manufacturer can resolutely focus on Microsoft’s platform, just like Nokia did.

The HTC Radar is the Taiwanese company’s second handset coming with Windows Phone 7.5 Mango pre-loaded. It is not as powerful as its elder brother, the HTC Titan, but it doesn’t tarnish its deserved title of the fastest Windows Phone-powered smartphone. By the way, this handset was launched in the US in two colors, white and metal silver (metallic grey), but now it seems we have a chance to get our hands on a two-toned Radar.

This information comes from Windows Phone Daily, where a two-toned HTC Radar was spotted “wearing” a white and dark grey housing. Besides giving a pretty unique look, these colors can become a guarantee for further success. As the image above shows, the devices are branded T-Mobile USA and were firstly introduced on Microsoft’s US Windows Phone site.

Though everything seems more than real, we have no official announcement concerning it, and therefore we can’t say whether this handset will be launched ever. Probably, this was done to see consumers’ opinions regarding it, so let’s help the authors and let them know whether we like the two-colored HTC Radar or not.

T-Mobile has a successful smartphone lineup updated every year. This year it happened due to the myTouch 4G Slide, which came to replace the earlier-launched original myTouch 4G. All in all, “our hero” is known for its camera, and though we can’t call it a cameraphone, we must admit it sports one of the best cameras ever. Now all owners of this awesome handset have a reason to walk on air as their beloved carrier is pushing out an update with many bug fixes and improvements.

Of course, this is not an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, as the myTouch 4G Slide was not included in the phone list expected to get this update in coming days. Moreover, most likely, this smartphone won’t ever have such a chance. But it’s a very important update as it features a Google security fix, Wi-Fi calling, the Genius Button and Netflix app experience.

There are other enhancements too. The update will be pushed out for a period between December 20-January 16. So be patient to get the corresponding notification and bring your handset to a higher a level.

There was a time when HTC was dominating the Windows Phone market. But HTC didn’t receive this “position” by chance, as being an Android-oriented manufacturer, it releases respectable devices running Microsoft’s mobile operating as well. Now one of these handsets is completing its career in T-Mobile. This smartphone is the HTC HD7.

This decision is rather unexpected, it was only some time ago we informed you about news coming to this device. Less than two weeks have passed since we announced the HD7 is getting Mango update. Another news concerned the minor update bringing internet sharing capability to it. Anyway, no matter how popular this handset was, T-Mobile announced it would no longer offer it.

Let’s not overload us with assumptions, as it won’t change anything. On the whole, it is a reasonable decision because users can always buy the newer models running Windows Phone OS like the HTC Radar 4G or the HTC Titan, or they can choose the improved HTC HD7S. Well, this is not that gladsome news, one day everything comes to its end.

If you are serious about smartphones and like to read tons of reviews and comments about a particular model before buying it, then you can get really tired of the huge amount of information available on the net. The potential buyers usually like to compare two or three phones to see their strong and weak points, and then only make their choice. After acquiring the phone, the user tends to justify his purchase in all forms possible (of course if the device is not awfully bad). T-Mobile recently came forward with a video meant to gladden those who bought the HTC Amaze 4G. To do that, T-Mobile compared in the video Amaze 4G with the iPhone 4S by taking them to ring.

The video resembles an old fighting game console, where the Amaze 4G is represented with a man in a pink something, who just announces a feature, which the iPhone 4S lacks, and then smashes his opponent in green clothing. The video is fun indeed, but there is a comparison of only camera features (Panorama, Burst shot, Smart shot), which are based on software. This is a reason, why many iPhone fans disregard this video, and say iPhone is much better on other grounds. Besides, smartphones in their current condition can never replace professional camera brands, such as for example Nikon or Canon.

Whatever it is, this video will be indeed enjoyed by all HTC fans, especially by those who were on the verge of buying iPhone, but then changed their mind, and took an HTC device, say the HTC Amaze 4G.

HTC proved it is not only focusing on all kinds of lawsuits with its competitors (say Apple), but also thinks about the owners of its latest smartphones. And not only thinks, but also provides them with so necessary updates.

Thanks to Twitter we can now proclaim this good news for owners of the HTC Amaze 4G, for HTC has rolled out a software update over the air. The update will raise Android to version 2.3.4 built number of 1.43.531.3 and will include several improvements, the most important of which is certainly the addition of IMS Wi-Fi Calling to the HTC Amaze 4G. This particular feature, which is available only for T-Mobile customers, was most expected, since Wi-Fi calling can significantly improve the reception level in locations, where the network signal is poor. Another major addition to the HTC Amaze 4G is the Google Music application.

Other minor details of this update include improvements to Bluetooth connection, a clock widget, and improvements to Twitter and Peep applications. By the way you can check if your phone has received the update by going to About phone in the Menu and then tap on HTC software updates and then – Check. All you need afterwards is to follow screen instruction.

This update will be available until December 20.

For the first time HTC launched a smartphone not similar to its previous (and most upcoming) devices and looks like this decision is justified. The HTC Amaze 4G completely corresponds to its moniker and is able to amaze everyone by each of its features. Firstly, it refers to its design, which gives an additional charm to the handset and helps it stand out in the crowd of HTC smartphones. Secondly, it refers to the new technology its camera is packed with. And finally, we must note its housing, which is an ideal combination of metal and plastic. I guess you are already interested in the Amaze 4G, so let’s not play for time and get to work.

The HTC Amaze 4G is the exclusive offer from T-Mobile. Previously the handset was codenamed as the HTC Ruby. The main target of the handset is the powerful camera, which is ideal both for shots and video recordings. In this regard, the handset is the follow-up of the popular HTC Sensation 4G. The handset seems to be HTC’s reaction to the release of the Samsung Galaxy S II. And the result is simply amazing. Like the Galaxy S II the device works with HSPA + 42 radios and offers data transmission speed in T-Mobile network up to 20 Mbit/s (in average — 8 Mbit/s).

Hardware

The HTC Amaze 4G is equipped with a 4.3-inch qHD Super LCD display with a resolution of 960×540 pixels, an 8 megapixel rear camera with a dual LED-flash and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls. The dimensions of the HTC Amaze 4G are 130×65.6×11.8 mm.

All this works on a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor Qualcomm Snapdragon, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. The device supports microSD cards for the memory expansion up to 32 GB. As for other features, it comes with Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot and a standard Li-Ion 1730mAh battery providing up to 6 hours of talk time.

Design

HTC is well known for its build quality for smartphones, and this case is not an exception. The HTC Amaze 4G is a sturdy smartphone, which sits nicely in your hand. Compared to the incredible Galaxy S II it’s a bit heavy but still not that large to cause discomfort. The rear cover is matte and soft to the touch, at the top and at the bottom it has metal inserts similar to the HTC Sensation 4G.

A single look at the Amaze 4G is enough to understand it’s an amazing HTC device. The manufacturer has softened its design, added rounded corners and a two-color battery compartment. All this reminds us of devices like the HTC Sensation and the HTC Desire.

In contrast to the latest models of HTC, this handset comes in two color options and correspondingly two different materials: plastic and metal. The combination of black and silver looks pretty amazing. The plastic is not glossy, which means the fingerprints are less visible. The metal part turns out to have slightly sharp edges, just like the Macbook, causing an uncomfortable feeling while holding the phone.

At the top of the left side of the smartphone we have the MicroUSB port designed for charging and syncing. The upper part of the right end is occupied with the volume button. Just below it you will find the power and 2 camera buttons. On the right corner we have lock on/off keys and the standard headphone jack.

Display

The HTC Amaze 4G comes with a 4.3 inch Super LCD display. This option of the display is way better than the display of the HTC EVO lineup devices. The screen looks great under direct sunlight. It covers almost the entire front panel of the device. Below the display we have 4 Android control keys, including Back, Home, Search and Menu.

If you think HTC Vivid’s display, which is 4.5 inches, is better, then I should remind you the HTC Vivid’s larger resolution causes problems with the clearness of the photos.

Camera

Analysts claim T-Mobile decided to have the handset as an exclusive relying especially on the powerful camera of the HTC Amaze 4G. I would completely agree with them, as the 8 megapixel camera of the handset has everything to desire. The HTC Amaze 4G uses a new type of camera, with BSI and f/2.2 aperture.

It shoots awesome photos even in low light conditions. The SmartShot feature gives you a chance to take 5 simultaneous shots and then choose the one you consider the best. Another cool feature of ClearShot HDR allows to shoot pics in low contrast. The camera also features Dual Flash and Autofocus.

Previously HTC handsets had the same buttons for videos and photos. Things are different with the HTC Amaze 4G. The device has separate buttons allowing to have quick shift between the actions of video recording and photo shooting. The device comes with the opportunity of recording 1080p HD videos.

Software

The handset comes with the Android 2.3.4 OS along with HTC Sense 3.0, which is rather disappointing as the latest devices support HTC Sense 3.5. This version of the UI allows to get support for the most popular HTC brand features like the HTC Watch, which is already available for WP handsets. Still even the 3.0 version of UI is pretty good in functionality and works without any bugs.

To deal with this drawback T-Mobile decided to offer some of the v.3.5 typical features including HTC Hub, Music and a few more. The carrier also decided to have some of its own features coming with the Amaze 4G including Lookout, More for Me, T-Mobile My Account, My Device, Polaris Office, T-Mobile Mail & TV, TeleNav Navigator and Zinio Reader.

The smartphone is announced to come without NFC tag support, but some users claim to have a support for this feature. We still haven’t investigated this feature.

Conclusion

The HTC Amaze 4G is a very good smartphone for T-Mobile, and for all HTC customers. The main highlights of the device are the gorgeous picture quality and the very good hardware performance. The beautiful design, the powerful dual-core processor and the latest version Android 2.3 Gingerbread are there to fulfill the list of high end specs of the device. Overall the handset is pretty good for purchase coming at the price of $260 with a two-year contract with the carrier.
