myTouch 3G Slide Android Smartphone Announced

T-Mobile has become the first mobile operator in the U.S., which introduced a smartphone based on Google Android in 2008. Since then, the range of the company has been enriched with several very interesting Android solutions. Recently, representatives of T-Mobile have announced the release of the next smartphone running the operating system from Google: myTouch 3G Slide.

The new device is very similar to the popular model myTouch 3G. A most differentiating feature of the new smartphone is the presence of a sliding QWERTY-keyboard. It is reported that T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide will be available in black, white and red color schemes.

myTouch 3G Slide is the first smartphone, where HTC Sense user interface and Android 2.1 operating system are combined with a full physical QWERTY-keyboard.

myTouch 3G Slide Specifications:

Google Android 2.1 operating system and HTC Sense user interface;
Processor with 600 MHz clock frequency;
3.4-inch screen with HVGA resolution;
5 MP camera;
A complete microSD memory with capacity of 8 GB.

The smartphone is expected to go on sale in June. There is no official data about the price of the device, but, according to the experts, myTouch 3G Slide will cost from $149 to $249 when signing a contract.

Klausner Sues HTC for Visual Voicemail

Klausner Technologies, owned by New York inventor Jude Klausner, sued the Taiwanese mobile manufacturer, HTC, adding it to many other defendants, on the common case of the violation of patented intellectual property.

As in previous legal proceedings, the matter concerns the technology of visual voice mail, which allows you to visually manage voice messages directly in the interface of the phone – in the manner of conventional e-mails: for example, choosing the appropriate messages without listening to previous ones or even reading them after the automatic conversion of speech into the text.

Klausner affirms that HTC has incompetently used the patents, since the release of T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. However, not all smartphones are under such claim: devices released for Verizon (for example, Droid Incredible) are free from claims, since the operator resolved all disputable issues early in 2008.

It is known that at present the plaintiff has licensed visual voicemail technology to 27 companies, including mobile phones manufacturers, mobile operators, cable and VoIP-providers in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Thus, in due time AT & T, Apple, Google, Skype had to make a row, but pay off.

Google Stands Behind HTC in Dispute With Apple

It seems that a new and a very strong player appeared in the case involving charges of Apple addressed to HTC regarding the illegal use of patented technology. Internet giant Google, which is also one of the main initiators of the development and dissemination of the Android software platform stands in defense of Thai producer of mobile devices.

Although Google itself is not an official participant of the proceedings, the corporation found it’s necessary to protect HTC, which is considered to be one of its key partners. After all, the experts of HTC have developed such well-known Android smartphones like Nexus One, G1 and myTouch 3G, and the mobile operating system Android, the popularity of which among consumers continues to grow, still occupies an increasingly prominent place in the range of Taiwanese manufacturer.

Thus, according to Google, by filing a lawsuit agains HTC, Apple not only wants to defend the alleged patent infringement, but also attempts to squeeze the dangerous competitor out of the market. After all, if the complaint of Apple company to the Commission on International Trade in U.S. (International Trade Commission, ITC) and the District Court in Delaware is satisfied, it can lead to the ban of sales of the most or even all the mobile devices of HTC in the territory of the United States.

T-Mobile MyTouch 3G with 3.5 mm Jack and Swype

Mobile operator T-Mobile announced the third version of the smartphone MyTouch 3G, which is being developed by HTC.

The new version of the smartphone has received an updated music player, memory card of 8 GB, a 3.5-mm audio jack for wired headphones and touch input technology Swype. MyTouch 3G specifications include also a 3.5mm as networks support, a 3.2 inch, 320 x 480 pixels screen and 3.2 megapixel camera , which remains unchanged. It also features Google Search By Voice, Google Maps, YouTube, Picasa and Android Market.

According to the creators of Swype, the development of technology took four years. It is designed to speed up typing on the touchscreen. They say that the user can type over 50 words per minute.

“T-Mobile has always been on the forefront of introducing new devices and ground breaking technologies and now has embraced Swype’s stunningly responsive text input for its touch screen lineup,” said Mike McSherry, CEO, Swype. “Launching on the Android platform is a major milestone for Swype as we continue to expand to new touch screen devices and platforms.”

MyTouch 3G 3.5mm is already on sale for $150 with a two-year contract.

Recently, all of us got reported about the plans of HTC to release to the market a number of new smartphones. As you already know most of them are running Google Android operating system, which, incidentally, is not surprising, since the Taiwanese company needs to gain strength to fight with such rivals in the mobile market as Samsung and Motorola. And the choic of the OS seems quite rational.

However, this “race” exists only in North America, while in Europe the platform from Google is developing more slowly. It seems that the mobile phone market is divided by the Atlantic Ocean: on the one hand Nokia and its Symbian, on the other Android OS is becoming more popular.

According to research of IDC firm, currently Android occupies only 5.4% market share in Western Europe, which is slightly higher compared with the second quarter of this year – 4,2%. “Some mobile operators in the third quarter included the Android device in the list of phones sold, which increased the supply of google phones. However, consumers avoid the platform, and the level of sales is much lower than previously expected,” – the IDC report says. “Consumers recognize the Google brand, but still do not understand what Android constitutes”.

HTC will do everything possible to destroy this stereotype and introduce the OS to the customers in a new light. The first step was the conclusion of the contract with a T-Mobile company, which is the only operator supplying google phones on both sides of the ocean. HTC released four smartphones based on Android: Dream/G1, Magic / myTouch 3G, Hero and Droid Eris. Four largest cellular operators, except AT & T, are engaged in the sales of these HTC phones in the United States.

In 2010, HTC will launch new models, including Bravo, Legend, and Salsa. With these smartphones the company hopes to increase the popularity of Android in various regions, including the conquer of the Western Europe! Devices have attractive specs: wide screen, support for DivX video with a resolution of 720p, the camera performance. In the promo campaign the model range will be divided into four categories: design / lifestyle, productivity, efficiency and social. It seems like the Taiwanese company is preparing a decisive blow in the upcoming year.

Google Maps Navigation for Android 1.6

Less than a month after the release of the Maps Navigation for Android 2.0, Google has introduced a version for Android 1.6 Donut which is something you should get acquainted .

The service is available in the U.S. on various devices , even on devices of HTC company, such as T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G.

It should be noted that some of the features available in Google Maps for Android 2.0, are not available in versions for Android 1.6, because it does not support voice control and that needs to be worked on to get the adaption possibility.
