The top smartphones with large WVGA-screen have a great viewing angle even on the road. But some movies and clips do not match the display, or even worse – refuse to play, citing unidentified codec. What to do? Of course, simply convert to the desired format.

In early 2009 Jandre developed a program designed for converting video for your HTC Touch HD. The application was in Spanish, but enjoyed great success with the owners of the smartphone. The author listened to the requests and translated Mp4ForHD into English. But this development is not over, and Jandre still continues to please fans of mobile video with new versions.

Ubuntu for HTC Touch HD

After running Ubuntu on HTC Touch Pro2 and HTC Universal the craftsmen have decided to run the popular Linux distribution on HTC Touch HD. The operation is relatively stable, there is support for Wi-Fi, but it is still far away from a full operating system.

Works:
- Touch screen and calibration
- Hard-keys (but many characters are not available)
- Framebuffer
- X server (window system)
- Wi-Fi
Does not function:
- 3D-accelerator
- Charging
- 3G
- Rotation of the screen
- Keys on the front panel
- Exit from standby

Installation:
1) Download the archive (126mb) and extract its contents to the root of the memory card
2) Run Haret.exe
3) Rename ubuntuarm.img to ubuntu.img
4) Replace the file STARTUP.txt to this (if you need WiFi – then enter your MAC-address instead of XX: XX: XX: XX: XX: XX )
5) Turn on the WiFi in Windows Mobile and run Haret.exe

HTC Sense v2.5: Carbon v2 Theme

The first version of this theme, Metal-Carbon looked just excellent. But the author did not stop, he presented the continuation – Carbon v2 – another theme that will make the interface of your smartphone more stylish and original!

There are four cab-files in the archive with the following themes: change icons, change hours, wallpapers for HD2 and wallpapers for HD. You can set all at once or any optional. The upper bar is not included in the complex, but you can install it separately by selecting the favorite ones, for example, from the messages in the forum.

It has been tested by the author on HTC HD2, but its work on other compliant devices is not excluded. In the archive there is a cab-file to install the wallpaper on the HTC Touch HD.

Each of us is probably tired of black, ugly Splash-screen, which appears during the loading of a smartphone. But kiay from xda-developers volunteered to fix this embarrassing mistake! Now you can change this theme to a new, more corresponding one for the HTC new style.

Owners of HTC Touch Pro, HTC Touch Pro2, HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch HD can change the default splash screen with a more colorful one. Do not confuse the Welcome screen, animated screen saver with a Splash-screen! This is the first image that appears when you start the device.

HTC HD with Installed Android OS (New Video)

We have another video showing HTC Touch HD, running under the Google Android 2.0.1, now we have the same but for HTC HD.

It should be noted that, in general, the tandem makes a favorable impression. While there still remain some problems connected with the performance, as well as the Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-F.

Though it should be mentioned that this is just a test and the work for the improvement of the integration will be still continued.

Another video showing HTC Touch HD running on Google Android 2.0.1 recently appeared on the web. It’s showing most of the details that were missing in the rest of the previous videos.

It should be noted that, in general, the device makes a favorable impression. While there are still some problems remaining with performance, as well as Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-Fi.

But let’s not forget that this is just a test build and work on improving the integration will continue both by various professionals and the users themselves.

HTC Touch Diamond2 Running Android

The development of Android OS emulators for smartphones running Windows Mobile have been carried on for a long time. And now, the developers from xda have presented the main result – HTC Touch Diamond2 running Android 2.0.1 (Eclair). Moreover, there is not only a video but also there are separate files available to run on the HTC Touch Diamond2, HTC Touch Pro2 or HTC Touch HD.

Instruction on self-installation:
1. Download the required archive:
- For HTC Touch Diamond2: Android 2.0.1 Android 1.6
- For HTC Touch Pro2: Android 2.0.1
- For HTC Touch HD: Android 2.0.1: mediafire, rapidshare or zshare
2. Make a backup copy of files on the memory card and format it in Fat32
3. Extract the contents of the archive to the root of the memory card
4. Run haret.exe and wait for the download

HTC HD2 Not the Only Phone with Camera Malfunction

It seems like the malfunction of the camera of HTC HD2, which we have already talked about last week, is not present only on this new flagship. This problem occurs in other smartphones as well and this is not only a problem of the HTC company.

As you can see, there are also noticeably pink spots in the center of each image. Moreover, it does not depend on the platform or the operating system, or from the manufacturer as the photos proved to be of various models and companies.

Perhaps all three models are equipped with cameras provided by the same manufacturer that has this defect. But still there is no exact information about the problem and no official announcements.

HTC HD2 with Android – Fake Images Leaked

The first rumors about the successor of the HTC Touch HD with Android OS appeared earlier in September of this year. Soon, they were denied informally and formally by HTC company representatives. But this morning news about HTC HD2 with the operating system from Google appeared again!

However, this information didn’t have a long-lasting life. It turned out that the photo of the HTC HD2 with the Android operating system was mounted in a graphics editor and this was done rather unprofessional. The proof of this is exactly the same screenshot of the interface of smartphone Acer Liquid.

Thus, the leaked images turned out to be fake. This once again confirms that any information may be implausible. So we can not rely even on the photos and the only real source seem to be the official information. But anyways the thing is that most of the time the early official announcements appear to prove or deny the rumors. So the latest seem to be rather effect and non-direct way of information gathering.
