We respect the HTC Hero because it was one of the first Android-powered smartphones launched in the US. Going back, we see the Hero was the modified version of the T-Mobile G1 and we can say it’s these handsets that started out the era of Androidmania. All in all, we can talk about the HTC Hero for hours mentioning its advantages and lacks, but at this moment we have another reason to recall it — looks like Walmart tried to check out our memory by introducing the HTC Hero instead of the HTC Evo Design 4G.

We can’t say what the main reason of such confusion was, but the same thing’s happening in Sam Club’s documentations. I mean the HTC Evo Design 4G is called the HTC Hero. This is strange, because both smartphones have nothing in common. It’s noticed even at a glance — the HTC Evo Design 4G is a standard HTC device in terms of design, while the HTC Hero clearly shows the imperfection of the then handsets.

However, we all understand someone has made a mistake. The phone offered for $98.88 is the HTC Evo Design 4G, and not the HTC Hero.

Source

The HTC Hero was launched in July, 2009, and it’s still quite a popular smartphone. This is why the manufacturer decided to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Hero. But a couple of days ago the smartphone was shown running Windows Phone 7!

On April 12, American TV showed another episode of Smallville, and in one of its scenes the HTC Hero was noticed. When one of the heroines took this smartphone to call someone, the audience saw Windows Phone 7 on the gadget. What did this scene mean? Why did the movie creators decide to “kill“ Android and install a non-native operating system on the phone? I guess this case won’t remain a mystery for a long time, and we’ll hear something about it very soon.

I personally do not see any sense in this case because the company has many Windows Phone 7-powered smartphones, and HTC doesn’t need to experiment Microsoft’s platform on such an old smartphone. Anyway, if you have other guesses, it’ll be interesting to hear you.

It looks like the HTC Hero is going to get a new system software update. The system upgrade has version 3.36.405.1 and is 6.41MB in size. The phone can be updated Over-The-Air but you have to use free WiFi hotspot or an unlimited data plan.

The HTC Hero is one of the first phones of the company which has been launched in 2009 and that time it ran Android 1.5 Cupcake. But as Google began to develop its platform more actively, this phone was one from those which periodically received the updates. As proof of my words I have to recall the cases when the HTC Hero was updated to Android 2.1, then to Android 2.2 and lately there were rumors it would be updated to Gingerbread.

Anyway, the HTC Hero is equipped with many useful features and without any updates it is good in performance, though 528 MHz processor is now too fast nowadays, but other features the phone sports are quite well: 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, 288 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, 5 MP with resolution 2592×1944 pixels and autofocus, standard 1350mAh battery providing up to 3 hours of talk time and 750 hours of stand-by mode in 3G network.

So I can only advice you to check out whether the update is available for your phone, and if you risk and upgrade your handset, let us know what new features it brings or does it work in general.

The long awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM for the HTC Hero has finally arrived. The update got the name aospCMod, by XDA Developer aosp, is built from the CyanogenMod 7 nightlies.Recall the HTC Hero was the first to receive the ever popular HTC Sense interface.

The update mainly comes to improve the camera/camcorder functionality of the handset. The HTC Hero development has slowed down in the past six month’s period, however luckily for us a few developers still go on with the handset.

The android-wifi-tether still works quite good, as well as the animation works, however you should probably change the screen density to 140 from 160.

More on aospCMod can be found here!

CyanogenMod is now available for many Android-devices, including HTC Desire, as well as HTC Legend, HTC Hero and some other devices.

The owners of the Sprint Hero are lucky enough to get a software update . Unluckily it’s not Gingerbread as it was expected earlier. Anyways still cool as the device has been rolling out for a super long time for now. Unlike in case of Nexus One which received an OTA update, this is simply an maintenance update. There’s even a rumor that one of the features of the update is designed not for the customers but for the carrier itself.

It helps to diagnose the device. If you are still not used to getting the update (this time coded as 2.32.651.2) just follow the steps: Settings> About> Phone> System Updates> HTC Software Update> Check now. Enjoy!

We are familiar with the fact that the devices that are coming with some specific operating systems. But this does not mean that the operating system is something permanent. Due to the hard work of the xda-developers we’ve got a chance to witness WinMo devices running Android OS. And it feels like sometime in near future we will see even more- Android devices running on WebOS.

The major port will take on HTC device HTC Hero. This means that hopefully not long after we will get a chance to see the final product of HTC Hero running the typical Palm Pre operating system. As for now we do have a 13 page thread on the website of the developers. Let’s state that WebOS has a list of good points including fast speed.

I’m talking about the poor Canadian TELUS customers, who never got the chance to get an Eclair ( Android 2.1
) update for their gadgets.

And now the official website of HTC gives a clue that soon the customers will get the update. And all of this is being done despite the fact that soon the device might be discontinued.

The official update is going to select the following features: Android 2.1 itself, Google Maps Navigation, Multi-touch, Voice Dialer and much more.

And the only part of the update left to be learned is the actual date of the update release.

Upgrading HTC Hero to Android 2.1 has passed relatively smoothly, but some claims for the new firmware still remain. Users expect somebody to fix the bugs, and we got a so called “update fix” HTC has just released!

Recently, the owners of European version of HTC Hero during the manual check for updates noticed a new patch with a version number 3.32.405.2 with a size of nearly 6 MB.

The list of changes that contains this update, remains in a mystery. Patch is noticed to effect only the G-sensor. Also, one user noticed improvement in the UI – the interface has become smoother working.

You can check for updates through the appropriate menu of your HTC Hero device or download and install OTA-file manually: OTA_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.2-3.32.405.1_R_release599wi39fqvb4yaeb.zip (5,86 MB) (Note: It’s for WWE-firmware)
