I guess all PC users will be pleasantly surprised as there is another device that is able to sync with keyboard and mouse. This device is the HTC HD2, the Leo that runs Windows Mobile 6.5. Though I’ve said it with irony, probably this time the OS is an advantage, as there is no other handset providing such functionality.

Of course, you understand this job is not official and was done by hackers, I’ll say by HTC fans who want to discover all the opportunities of HTC smartphones. Well, The Dark Forces Team, famous HTC hackers, has been working very hard to reach such a result, i.e. to add a USB host to a phone. If you are not aware what advantages it brings, I’ve to say that now following the instructions (follow the source link) you can add some USB devices like USB Mass Storage, mice and keyboards. After you have done all the needed actions, the HTC HD2 will support the Human Interface Devices profile, which will provide the sync process of the aforementioned devices.

The team mentions that this is an experimental deal, and only the HTC HD2 with 3.14 ROM was tested. Moreover, probably you’ll need a self-powered USB hub.

Anyway, if you decide to follow their advice to find out what the classic PC on the HTC HD2 looks like, let us know.

Everybody’s waiting for the release of unlocked HTC devices to start using custom ROMs and to be able to join open-source communities.

The patent wars with Apple are still a big problem for HTC. The manufacturer decided to sign an agreement with Microsoft, which was the first step of getting companions for fighting back. But perhaps the devices with unlocked bootloader will also be a good option. By offering “blank” devices, the manufacturer will become free from the burden of handling all of the features of the handsets.

The devices will be available with a list of pre-programmed ROMs, while the option of custom ROMs will also be present. I bet this will be the main option the customers will stick to.

If we go back to the creations of the enthusiasts, we will remember the HTC HD2 and the HTC HD7. The smartphone was released with Windows Mobile and only afterwards it got both Windows Phone and Android ports. And it wasn’t difficult at all. So why not to make this chance possible for the rest of the smartphones?

The Pocketnow guys revealed a new pic demonstrating an HTC novelty. The device is assumed to be called the HTC Lead, though we can’t say for sure it really exists.

The pic (which, by the way, shows a smartphone with a typical HTC design with typical buttons — nothing new) looks like a Photoshop creation, and we know nothing about the smartphone except its name. I personally don’t really think that the device will come up (if it is ever released) with this exact design. The buttons of the device are designed in the earlier HTC style, using not the three stacked lines, but the word “menu.” The main device that resembles the novelty is the HTC HD2, well, except for the buttons.

Another good point is the size of the display. If we compare the button and display ration, we will see that the display looks larger than in the rest of the HTC smartphones. But it might also mean that the device will be featuring smaller menu buttons, who knows.

If the device is real, we will hear more about it very soon. And if we don’t, I bet it will just appear to be either a Photoshop creation or just an HTC concept. There’s also a chance that the device might be designed for one specific market, e.g. China, that’s why we do not have any news about it. We’ll see soon anyway.

The HTC HD7 is a worthy successor of the original HTC HD2. As you remember, the HD7 is a Windows Phone 7-powered smartphone, but it doesn’t mean we can’t see Android platform running on it. If you haven’t caught what I am talking about, continue reading to find out how developers decided to bring another operating system to HTC’s smartphone.

A HTC HD7 user Pepsi introduces a video demonstrating the HTC HD7 that performs several functions in Android. The exact version is not known, but we tend to think it’s Froyo. The custom ROM is in Chinese and we can see it from the initial device boot up through the HTC Sense home screen.

The release date of the ROM is not announced, and I don’t think we’ll see it in the nearest future or see at all. Though the video is quite attractive, we can’t completely appreciate what the ROM can do.

We begin to think developers could install any operating system in any device. Because if a Windows Phone 7-based smartphone could run Android, why other handsets couldn’t provide such ability, too?

Last year everyone was happy with the fact that Twitter client Peep working integrated with HTC smartphones. And then suddenly with the update of the Twitter client to the new authentication method Oath the service stopped working. The fix took around three days and then Twitter automatically updated itself.

Another problem that occurred with the same service has to deal with security. Last week one of the reliable sources reported about the Twitter password leak, and HTC was right there to offer an immediate fix. It took the form of the HTC Peep Security application.

The application in the form of the update landed to the selected list of HTC smartphones. It includes HTC Touch Pro2, HTC HD2, HTC Touch Diamond 2 and HTC HD Mini.

There are rumors that the security update application was made even without the demand of the special security operation, but anyways manufacturer decided to make it publicized after the problem appeared.

So what is needed to be done with your gadget to receive this update? Well, unluckily it’s not going to be an over the air update, so you need to do your best to insecure your gadget.

Just grab your gadget and go strictly by the following instructions from HTC official website:

You can find Microsoft ActiveSync Windows Mobile Device Center.

Connect and synchronize your device with your PC via Microsoft ActiveSync® or Windows Mobile Device Center using the USB cable.

To download this update select the update below and the location closest to you then click Download.

Copy the update, which is an .exe file, to your device. To install the update, tap the .exe file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Warning: Do not forget to reinstall the update after the hard reset.

Recently, when we reported that all those users who have been tired of their HTC HD2 to run Android OS and wanted to try out new released Windows Phone 7 platform, now can do it with a custom ROM.

Often we chose a smartphone taking account the OS it runs. Nowadays Android is the most popular platform statewide, the iPhone is the most sold smartphone, and Windows Phone 7 probably is the most rumored mobile OS, and people have been waiting this platform more to be done. Anyway, if you don’t know which one to choose for your HTC HD2– Android or Windows Phone 7, now you can use dual-boot option. For detailed information you have to meet Darrengladysz’s tutorial, from XDA-developers, on how to do that.

For this awesome deal you must have an SD card adapter/reader and partition software. Besides these, you’ll need two microSD cards (8GB or 16GB). The first one will help you to obtain a smaller partition for WP7, and then it’ll be copied to the larger memory card. There are many nuances, related with Windows Phone 7 features, so I’ll not irk you with technical instructions, and those who is going to do this themselves, can get the full instructions at XDA-developers.

You also have to remember it’s always risky to deepen in the phone so much, but once you have done it, I guess you will be proud for your HTC HD2.

It turns out that Windows Phone 7 HTC HD2 performs quite well; you personally can verify this by checking out the video below.
It is also worth noting that the HD2 loads Web pages and applications faster than the Samsung Focus.

Just get this- the enthusiasts got a chance to update its original Windows Phone 6.5 with Android OS, then with an test version of WP7. What else is there to test with?

Well, this time the enthusiasts got a chance to put Windows 95 and Windows 98 on the smartphone. After a long period of testing there was a chance to get the stuff working on the device.

Hope that soon you’ll get a chance to witness the full new pack of Windows XP working on this awesome smartphone.
