Today you can’t surprise anyone with source codes of different devices posted online. However, HTC has decided to show the source codes of three devices running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The lucky devices are the HTC Flyer with its kernel source code released, and the Incredible S and the Desire Z (their U.S. versions, too) with their Gingerbread maintenance updates released.
This is great news for many of us, even though the rooting community has been cracking all three HTC devices since the day they were launched. Now these files with the source codes will help the developers create a lot of cool stuff for two of the best HTC smartphones and the first HTC tablet, so after a very short time lots of new firmware versions will appear, each of them better than the others.
If you’re a developer and want to grab the AOSP files, don’t hesitate to head to the Developer Center. If you’re not a developer, you can have a look at the files anyway
By the way, a couple of days ago Android 3.2 kernel source code (the code for the GPL and LGPL components of 3.2) was also made available.
