Official: Google and HTC announce Nexus One

As expected during today’s press conference, Google officially announced its smartphone Nexus One. According to the vice-president for Google’s new product developments,Mario Kerosa, Nexus One is the next step in the evolution of the mobile platform Android.

Calling the Nexus One «super-”, Mario Keros stressed that its development was made possible thanks to the cooperation of Google and Taiwan’s HTC.

The head of the HTC – Peter Chou, present at the conferance, told about the technical specs of a smartphone and everything was just the same as was rumored. The device is running the latest version of mobile OS from Google – Android 2.1.

Nexus One is equipped with a 3,7 “AMOLED-display, 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 5-megapixel camera with LED-flash, 3.5-millimeter headset jack, GPS, accelerometer, digital compass, motion sensor lighting and so on . The traditional for Android-smartphone trackball with indicator lights may notify the owner of the received messages or missed calls.

Google Nexus One

The smartphone has a function of the “active noise control”. At the back of the Nexus One is located on the Google logo and the name of the direct producer – company HTC. On the silver-colored metal insert method of engraving is possible to put any inscription.

Concluding the formal part of the press conference, Mario Keros said that Google plans to release a series of “smart phones”. In the meantime, users can purchase Nexus One, which, according to Peter Chou, “extends the idea of the possibilities of Smartphones.” The device can be purchased through the online store for Google or from offices of T-Mobile, which will be the one to sell the phone to its subscribers.

As previously reported, the U.S. retail price of unsubsidized Nexus One is $529, and in case of a two-year contract with operator T-Mobile smartphone can be purchased for $ 179. The device will be available in Europe and Asia as well.
