It’s been a long time that Qualcomm became the main companion for HTC while both of the companies got benefits from the cooperation. Qualcomm Snapdragon processor brought mobile performance to a new level, giving the frequency of 1GHz. But progress does not stand still! In the fourth quarter, the company has promised to start mass production of 1.5GHz chips, and recently announced the next generation – the dual-core processor MSM8960, made on 28nm process technology.
The company mentions that MSM8960 is a dual-core chip based on the processor with the new micro-architecture. Its performance is five times higher than the original Snapdragon, and energy consumption – down to 75%.
The new chips support LTE along with 3G. In addition, it’s equipped with WLAN, GPS, Bluetooth and FM-modules. MSM8960 is the first chip, made in 28nm process technology, and the first samples will be submitted as early as 2012.
We should also mention multimedia capabilities. Future chips will have a graphics processor Adreno 3xx, which (according to the company) will be four times more productive. Unfortunately, in comparison with what is not specified. If we take the series GPU Adreno 2xx, then chances will increase only twice. But this is enough to display mobile graphics to a new level.
