It is no news already that the smartphones like PC’s can become the target of a hackers’ attack. All GSM phones now appear to have a security flaw, which could be exploited to make the phones send unauthorized messages and calls and thus generate income for the hackers.

Karsten Nohl who is the head of German Security Labs has disclosed the vulnerability at the interview with Reuters. Just before the opening of a hacking convention in Berlin, Mr. Nohl said any GSM phone could be made the target of the attack and it could actually be done to thousands of phones at the same time. And the security organizations themselves are not guaranteed from the hack attack as happened to the US Strategic Forecasting think tank (Stratfor), which announced that due to hacking the list of its corporate subscribers was made public.
Mr. Nohl elaborated that hackers usually make bogus phone numbers in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. Then the target phones are hacked using the mentioned security flaw and made to send messages or even calls to the predetermined business numbers after which collect the cash. The phone owners understand there is some problem when they receive unusually ling bills and start complaining to the carriers. Nevertheless, Mr. Nohl did not go further explaining how exactly the hacking process is done but obviously he would not make such an announcement without strong assurance that the flaw is still there.
