HTC to Buy Dashwire for $18.5 million

HTCSense.com is the remote control service of the company that helps users to track the location of their handsets. A couple of days ago HTC announced it is going to buy the Seattle-based mobile-web connected services company Dashwire to increase the efficiency of its mobile cloud services. Probably it is more comfortable to acquire an already developed company than establish a new one, but don’t you think paying $18.5 million for it is too much?

According to the crunchbase.com, “Dashwire offers the industry leading mobile-web connected services platform for mobile operators, device makers and retailers to seamlessly deliver a new generation of real-time consumer, social and device management software services on open mobile phones.” As the company’s platform supports almost all mobile OSs — Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian and even BlackBerry — most likely no problem will occur.

If it still makes you doubt whether it is a good idea to buy Dashwire for such a high price, I have to say it’s a serious company founded by CEO Ford Davidson, a former Product Manager in the Mobile Devices group at Microsoft. Moreover, Dashwire’s CTO, James Prudente, was one of those who helped to build the critical elements of Amazon’s web operation, plus, he helped to create the Amazon Mobile group.

I think the Taiwanese company is paying much, but this deal will help HTC to improve its HTCSense.com.
