There was an opinion the UK smartphone market is headed by the iPhone, but according to the last survey by uSwitch the Apple’s product is only the sixth, and the chart of the bestselling smartphones is headed by three HTC smartphones- the HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD and HTC Wildfire.
Here is another interesting fact; Android phones had 5 of the top ten slots. Though the Taiwanese company will launch the HTC Desire S, the European version of the original Desire, but as we can this handset has become the most popular smartphone in the UK.
The iPhone is only on the sixth position, but there are different data plans now that makes us to think iPhone will return to its position very soon.

If you wonder how it happened the HTC’s three smartphones began to lead the list at the same time, here is the only explanation; HTC always comes with many smartphones which prices vary widely, and there is always an accessible device to buy.
Below is the whole list of the best selling smartphones in the UK:
- HTC Desire
- HTC Desire HD
- HTC Wildfire
- Blackberry Curve 8520
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Apple iPhone 4 (16Gb)
- Motorola DEFY
- Sony Ericsson S500i
- Samsung G800
- Samsung i600
So we can conclude HTC and Samsung are the most favorite smartphone brands in the UK, but HTC is a head higher than others by the following reasons:
HTC has outsmarted the smartphone market by customising its handsets at a range of price points – as seen by the Wildfire acting as an aspirational Desire. It’s clever marketing. Android phones have well and truly pipped Apple to the post. But, with just a couple of months until Apple is expected to give details of its next offering, it’s almost a dead cert that they will soon leadFhd the way again in the race for smartphone dominance”, as Ernest Doku, the technology expert at uSwitch.com said.
It has been expected from Android to be on the first positions, but I didn’t think HTC is so loved by UK users, and what about you?
