HTC is Losing Ground

This year HTC will face serious competition from other vendors in the smartphone market. For example, Motorola has already dropped HTC company from the fourth place in this segment, going forward in terms of retail sales (IDC data on the basis of 4Q09). In particular, Motorola has sold 2,5 million smartphones, taking up 4.6% of the segment, while HTC with 2,4 million units, takes up only 4.4%.

Samsung steps up very actively. The company has a number of models based on Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile, LiMo, and in the second quarter will introduce model running Bada. Samsung plans to sell all 8-10 million smartphones this year compared to 5.7 million last year. LG plans to sell more than 10 million smartphones. LG will release 20 new devices this year (though, in fact, sales will unlikely exceed 3.5 million units). Sony Ericsson is also very active. Foxconn will produce phones for the company.
