The HTC Hero — do you remember such a phone? Of course you do because this phone was one of the first Android devices launched in the US. Though its specs list is very weak for the newest version of Google’s operating system, the developers managed to bring Ice Cream Sandwich goodies to this handset.

This is one of the firstborns of HTC. The Hero was launched at the end of June, 2009. It was running one of the first versions of Android, v1.5 Cupcake. But during years the smartphone got its share of updates. It was first updated to Android 2.1 Éclair, followed by Android 2.2 Froyo and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The latter was just a custom ROM, but the Hero owners were beholden to developers, as HTC was not paying attention to this smartphone for long. Moreover, enthusiasts managed to port WebOS and Windows Phone 7 to the Hero.
As you see the phone is very popular and beloved by users. The company even launched the pink version of the Hero; as you know pink phones are not launched too often — only when there is a huge demand. So the phone is still in use and that’s the basic reason why developers decided to create an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for it. It’ll soon be available for download. According to XDA Developers, it definitely boots, and touchscreen function is a go. Audio, Google Apps, WiFi and the Camera are all still under construction.
It’s difficult to imagine how Android 4.0 will work on the HTC Hero, but nothing is impossible.
