Upgrading HTC Hero to Android 2.1 has passed relatively smoothly, but some claims for the new firmware still remain. Users expect somebody to fix the bugs, and we got a so called “update fix” HTC has just released!

Recently, the owners of European version of HTC Hero during the manual check for updates noticed a new patch with a version number 3.32.405.2 with a size of nearly 6 MB.

The list of changes that contains this update, remains in a mystery. Patch is noticed to effect only the G-sensor. Also, one user noticed improvement in the UI – the interface has become smoother working.

You can check for updates through the appropriate menu of your HTC Hero device or download and install OTA-file manually: OTA_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.2-3.32.405.1_R_release599wi39fqvb4yaeb.zip (5,86 MB) (Note: It’s for WWE-firmware)

The Youtube app seems to be fixed. A number of people, myself included, were having issues where it would add an '@youtube.com' to the phone as a Google sync account, which would then flash warnings that it couldn't log in all the time. It doesn't seem to do this any more.

Just applied the update. A lot of the HTC widgets – People, Music, Clock, Weather – disappeared from my scene and were not available when I held the screen to add them back!!! I had to power cycle to get them back so that was a bit of a sweaty moment.

I love my Hero but, along with some benefits, the 2.1 Android upgrade brought new issues for the People widget, Bookmarks and general performance – it just seemed sluggish. I'm glad to say that I'm pretty sure the phone is now running a little faster. It also seems they've finally fixed the bloody Weather app for the (current) location – that hasn't worked for me since day one, woot!!!

However the Bookmarks issue is still present (ordering them alphabetically doesn't persist). I haven't tested the problems I was having with People but at least there is some progress. Good one HTC, nice to know that we haven't been (entirely) forgotten.
