HTC HD2 One More Problem?

htc-hd2-problemIt seems that the problem with pink tint on photos taken with HTC HD2 is not the only one possible problem of the smartphone. In addition to this another malfunction was found in the flagship model of the company. And this time the problem touched one of the main features of the new gadget – the huge touch screen.

HTC HD2 is the first WM-smartphone with a capacitive touch screen. Of course, the technology used in the smartphone is new and there is not enough experience in this area, but questions arise whether manufacturer should have conducted a more thorough testing before the release.

The problem is that a touch screen has difficulties defining the coordinates – the video clearly shows that when the finger is fixed HTC Sense starts flipping tabs:

Whether all phones shipped already have this problem is still unknown, so we encourage all owners of HTC HD2 to leave comments and let us know whether it occurs on their device or no.

It is assumed that the reason of the problem is the bug in the UI with the scrolling function. Earlier, it was not used in devices with a resistive screen that is why it was not recognized in time.

But the owners of the device should not worry! The support team is already aware of the problem and the necessary corrections will appear in the near future!

UPDATE

Update on this guys! We saw that this post gets more visitors and want you to know that problem of pink spots is solved. You’ll just need to download the patch and install, cause the problem is not hardware related.

  • Henry Tsau

I see flipping very often. It shows in some programs, but not others. On scrolling menus it’s bad.

Regarding the pink camera bug, I applied the camera fix patch, but my videos still have the pink area. So the bug is still there for video.

Owned my HD2 for a long time now never had any problems, maybe people should use their phone as a phone and not play with it 24/7 and no probs would happen only time my phone heats up is when i use it for excessive periods of time…….. like youtube+wifi for ages. nnthe phone has a lot of issues for other but i must have the only good one or just dont do somthing that everyone else does…….nn

I hated my HD2 until I started running android on it, now it’s GREAT. It’s not the phone it’s the crappy windows 6.5 OS

Yes I have the screen jitter problem.. Big time… very anoying, about to return the device to HTC, unacceptable.

Love the device apart from that.

A perfect telephone, I do have some small problems, SMS delay… and when I’m turning on Bluetooth it sometimes freezes. I do a soft reset (cut the power) and then it is ok again. No screen jitter problem
Otherwise it is a superb phone. I used a tweak (http://www.montecristoff.com/) and I was able to increase the shortcuts from 3×3 to 4×4… excellent…
Miss some other tweaks, like flipping word to landscape, and does anybody know if it is possible to have a letter recogniser

I have the jitter problem and it appears in the on-screen keypad as well so typing is a problem. I have managed to lock-out accounts several times as entering passwords is almost impossible, with the added hindrance of not being able to see the mistakes. It also seems to forget passwords when the phone is switched off and on, even though I have set the option to remember them.
I think it is a great phone apart from that so hopefully I can get it replaced with a working one.
The camera on mine seems to be fine.

I have had my HD2 for ca 3 weeks, and it's full of problems! It's flipping tabs whenever it's cold outside or it's windy. It shuts off and heats up very quiqly. My text messages is impossible to write since it flipps through all kinds of type signs all the time and doesn't always get through to the other person. It keeps changing the call and wake up melody all the time! I HAATE THIS PHONE!

  • Alaina

I have had my HD2 for one week and I started having problems on day 2. My phone would unexplicably freeze whenever I would charge it. I charged it both from the wall outlet and my computer and it would either freeze or shut down. I've had to restart the phone over 5 times in one day. I have had the same problems with the screen flipping when I've just slightly touched it, or it opens up the wrong program. On top of that when I text I will have it highlighted in the text box where I am writing and it will highlight back to the other persons text so then I cant see what I am writing until I click on the text box again. I've had multiple dropped calls because the slightest touch will set the phone off or change the settings. I like the phone, I think it's a good concept, but HTC has some work to do to make the phone better. I'm returning the phone next week and going back to my blackberry…

  • thaboss904

I have had the same problem with my HD2. Randomly freezes when charging. Also I noticed over the weekend (day 2 and day 3 of the phone being in my possession after purchase) that even with the phone not being on charge it is still freezing. I am pretty upset with this phone at this point. A brand new phone should not be freezing. The only way to unlock it is to physically remove the back and remove the battery. Why is this happening? I haven't customized, downloaded, or changed the configuration on the phone so I'm sure it isn't anything I've done. I even went as far as resetting the phone to see if that would help but it didn't. After my disaster with the Moto Cliq I really don't want to deal with another exchange… I'm really not sure what my options are at this point… I have waited so long after owning my G1 since the debut that waiting any longer really doesn't matter… I just want a good phone that I can text, talk, surf, music, etc… Any suggestions?

  • Nigel

yes it does, and the typing of messages as well, today while i was typing a message, the phone suddenly scrolls up&down, deletes some messages and opens applications. very annoying.

I'm on my 3rd HTC HD2 and every single one (including this one which ive had for a day) has been freezing uncontrollably and doesnt let me do anything. I have to pull the back off and the battery out. and most of the time when i put the battery back in and turn the phone on it freezes while turning on. and HA! back to pulling the battery out. When I try to play my music the song will play for about 8 seconds and then stop and I get an error mesg and then the phone freezes… I can say that EVERY SINGLE comment below mine is an issue that i have had with all 3 HD2's that Ive had.
I am just about tired of exchanges and master resets for this phone and dont know what else to do… maybe i'll go back to my blackberry because HTC just isnt making the cut.

***If there is software updates would someone let me know? Maybe that will help the problem…

If there ISNT software updates i suggest that the people at HTC get a move on it and provide some solutions for these problems or else HTC might lose some customers. :-/ sad but true.

I have another problem with my htc hd2.everytime I turn off and turn it back on it always has this problem of launching the home screen.I can go to the start page but the apps that I have in the home page would not let me access it in the start page.It also freezes every time. I already made an exchange with this phone but still the second htc hd2 is still doing the same problem like the first one and I already like 4 or 5 times of hard reset just to keep working.I'm thinking on returning it because it just giving me too many problems.hope you can help me what to do.

  • Fahad

my hd2 is not initializing htc sense & i can not call using this phone.
Does anybody knows how to fix it?

  • Al

im having all the same problems as everyone else on this site. why has HTC not responded to all these problems yet? clearly they are misleading consumers and i personally am not likely to be an HTC customer again. now what do people do? just go buy another phone? i love the HD2, when it functions which is rare if EVER. im outside my 2 week period to exchange it with T-mobile, now what?

  • ND

My phone keeps locking me out so I can only make emergency phone calls only. The message comes up with
Company policy has enabled device encryption …..

I cannot restore factory settings and even taking the battery and sim out don' tsolve this problem. I'll be on phone and sim number 2 tomorrow. Has anyone else had this same message ?

  • Jamie

Had my phone from launch. This phone has been nothing but on going problems. All the faults as so far described, plus phone rings twice in pocket and by the time I can reach in and get it out it stops ringing, makes you think that the caller has hung up. If a text message arrived and I had it on ring and vibrate it would ring then keep vibrating till I opened message, this was OK as long as I was there to answer text. If not it would just keep vibrating till battery gave out, needless to say it is now only on ring in case the vibrating device burns out. Sometimes the led would blink to inform me of a missed call / text, sometimes it wouldnt. One morning the alarm never went off, I thought here is a new glip. But I also missed a reminder later on in the day, turns out the sound had decided to pack in, after a soft reset it started to work again. I contacted HTC by email via their web site and was asked to call them up and explain problems which I did. They arranged for a courrier to pick it up on Monday and took it away for repair. Up till now, Thursday , I have heard no word on the status of my phone, but I would have to say the swiftness of the pickup for repair was good as was the service shown. Only thing is, I have had no phone since Monday. I will report back when I get my phone back and let you all know how I got on.

  • Celinarose22

How the heck did you get a courrier to pick it up?! I have to send mine in for repairs and pay for the shipping myself. such crap with HTC. I'm on my 4th Phone since the launch. T-mobile said I was the 5th person to receive it when it came out. ughhh I'm pissed that I didnt just get a refund before the 14 days was up. I think Tmobile has the shortest “buyers remorse” time out of all the carriers.

  • Celinarose22

now like the rest of us we are shit out of luck. :-/

  • Jamie

Got my phone back yesterday and early indications are that the phone seems to be less touch sensitive but more accurate regards opening applications. Writing a text is more enjoyable as its now like using a key pad as opposed to a touch screen, I imagine how its meant to be. According to the HTC report, my phone was Diagnosed, then re-flashed ROM followed by an applied modification / fix per service advisory ( Level 2 ) and finally function tested. Only time will tell if this has cured all the faults. I would also have to congratulate HTC on their aftersales service, I phoned on the Monday morning and I swear within minutes a USP driver called me to say he would be there in 5 minutes for the pickup, excellent customer service.

  • Jamie

Phone on its way back to repair centre. Vibrating message alarm still faulty and now it has another 2 faults. Phone now switches off in pocket, I go to use it and press the start key and it re-boots, no idea how long its been switched off. Now it makes calls while its in sleep mode in my pocket, I found this out when I checked my home phones call log. On Friday morning I had 2 missed calls from my HTC that I hadnt made, in fact the only call I made that morning was too HTC to book it back in for another repair, how many more times is this happening in my address book ????? the last 2 faults have only started SINCE coming back from repair centre. It seems they are only adding hot fixes, or quick fixes, you decide, so when you have to do a hard re-set your back to square one. I'm going to contact Vodafone and try for another phone, i'm prepared to lose the £250 up front along with the 18 month contract for a bit reliability…

I bought my htc hd2 in march 2010 and since then these are the problems that I'm faced with :-
a . the phone freezes very often .
    b. It hangs many times a day .
    c. It fails to recognise my password and I have to do a hard reset . The hard set procedure is not even stated anywhere in the literature . I hav to open the website to perform the hard reset and restore my previous .datas . I have performed hard reset for about 4 times since I bought the pda.
    d. I have used the tytan , the hd and this is the worst phone in the hd series.
    e. To day the 28 th June 2010 I have the next problem – the phone cannot charge . I have sent my set to the supplier in KL . There's nothing wrong with the battery , the orange light dont light up .
    f. I like the features of the phone . That's why I keep on buying the new model . . But this time I'm very very disappointed .

  • Aguilasrpc

  • Christy_l_85

Hi i dont know if this helps bub my phone would always freeze when i charged it unless i use a USB to charge through an adapter as i think maybe there is too much current going through the normal wall charger or something that makes it freeze all the time…..My phone came from Taiwan and i live in Australia so maybe the charger is not the right frequency and in turn incompatible.
Hope this helps, ii would suggest charging via usb from your pc and see if it freezes still…..

  • Aznxthu6xboi5o3

my htc hd2 freeze and shut off and turn back on when im talkin on the phone with someone with no other games web music on i even try the end task shiz it still dont work and taking the battery out nothing works

  • Sjnicho

My problem when set to vibrate and ring, it vibrates every call recieved but only rings every second call.
if set to vibrate then ring, it vibrates then rings every call, but the vibration is so short, if driving a tractor or truck you don't relise it was the phone so miss some calls

  • Vipulal

I too have an HTC HD2 from my job. What a piece of crap! It works for a week without any issue then will heat-up, freeze and drive me nuts. I am an experienced electrical engineer and currently working in a leading tech company in IT. I can recognize when I see a piece of tech junk. HTC HD2 is one of them. Will never buy any HTC again in my life. I have been with T-Mobile for my work phone but now going to switch to AT&T to get a better phone.

  • Rgolde

My second HTC phone failed to make it past the 1 year mark, first it was the touch cruise then the hd2 just crapped out and won't connect with the cell network, means my next phone is either a Motorolla or Iphone.

  • Kw622000

I have all the same problems with HD2…freezing, powering off, screen jumping….totally useless phone. I called Tmobile tech support (what a joke) and they said they hadn't heard of any problems like that with this phone. What am I an idiot ! It's all over the forums just like this one, why don't they recall the phone ? It is a piece of trash!

    • Beauty5ied

I argued with the tech for over 30 mins the other day. I had to let him know that customers are NOT guinea pigs!! They should have tested it before selling it. What they call “upgrades” is them trying to make the phone as they go along… sad.

I’m a software tester and the minute I got this phone I knew it was a piece of crap. The screens don’t close when you move to a new one, calls don’t get placed, calls get dropped if you put your ear too close, etc. Yes, it is a total ripoff with multiple bad replacements that are “refurbished”. I’m about ready to get a $50 phone and just go with it. They should have hired testers….

I live in nigeria and a lover of touch screen phones..i stumbled on the HTC HD 2 on the internet and fell in love with it..i finally bought one which i love more than my Blackberry Storm 2..after Two weeks of usage, i started noticing that my speaker volume shuts down when you call me and as such can not hear what the person is saying or it makes a funny cricketing sound , but when i call the person back immidiately, i can hear and speak with the person..this was very fustrating.i have restarted severally and this only helps for few minutes..i have done factory reset thrice and only works for couple of days and reverts..i had to return it back to my local vendor and yet to get another one..the worst of it all is that i could not sync it with my outlook and as such , am losing all my contacts..does anyone have and answer for this abnormalies

  • Calvin Wangyang

i bought this htc hd2 about 3 months ago because i did not use it too much so i think its ok. but now i can not turn on my phone, i don't know why.i try everything what i can do but it does not work, just white screen with htc logo, because i bought this phone from AMAZON so i contract with the seller, they told me take a factory reset, but still doesn't work, it is so bad, and right now i try to call HTC for warranty repair.because i can not buy a phone and just use for three months. that is sooooo bad.

    • medlsa

I’m having all kinds of problems with mine as well. I really wanted to love it, but I don’t. I can’t sync with my laptop anymore as doesn’t recognize itself any more. It freezes all the time. It resets data without me asking. Grrrr. I want my blackberry back.

    • Justinhwd954

did anyone find a way to fixs calvins problem mine does the same thing it just turns on says stick together in like a pink box and says rgd in little letters at the bottom

  • Mr Carloz

I have had an HD2 since April, I’m on my 3rd phone. The first was replaced due to signal issues, the second would reset when opening programs or trying to multitask (sporatically) and the newest phone volume doesn’t re-adjust when taking the phone out of vibrate. The ringer and speakerphone are very low when both the system and ringer volume are turned up. I have had bad experiences with this phone…

  • Donteglenn1

yes i just got it yester 9-17-2010 and its been freezing im going to return it tomorrow i like the andriod market the window market suck im so irrated and annoyed by this phone . My girlfriend have the sprint evo and its better than this phone

  • Anonymous

I’ve been having pretty much all of these problems from Day 1 :( phoned o2 and was informed that the freezing and glitching was down to my sim card (?) and that I’d have to get it replaced. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but any issued with my sim wouldn’t cause my battery to overheat, or stop my ringer/vibrate from working. I’ll attempt their “band-aid” for a while, but I don’t expect much.

  • Shilukijaan

I was taking to my wife on my home and the phone shuts off. On the other end my wife thought i crashed, that’s the kind a sound she heard on her end. It happened twice that day and called up T MOBILE tech to find out why? He told me to do a master reset. Still not working. T mobile is sending me another one of this phone. This is my 2nd replacement phone. This is a phone which belongs in a trash can. I think this phone needs a recall. Had a HTC wing three years ago no problem at all.

    • Wow

you were on your phone while driving???? dimwit thats more stupid then buying a HD2 if the first place. nnas for the call dropping issue unlock it and switch carriers or get another HD2 on another network

  • Starlinesg

I sent my 3 months old HD2 for repair on 14 Oct because it often hangs, calls cut-off, could not restart, overheat and no ring tone. I got my phone back on 21 Oct with many parts changed – main board, speaker, LCM/LCD, FPC board (camera). The phone works but the camera could not. The camera was working when I sent for repair and I am curious why the FPC board was changed and now the camera doesn’t work? Today I sent it back to the service centre and the service personnel reset the phone to try to activate the camera. Do you know what happened? When the phone restarted, he could not even find the camera icon – it just disappeared! What a joke this is! This phone is a corporate (business) phone and is important to me. I already did not use the phone for 1 week and now another week? What kind of product quality is this? Quietly Brilliant? This may be my first and last HTC phone for sure if the second repair still has problems.

  • Jhffddjd1

    fuck these phones

  • Kareem hassan

I start using HD2 in April 2010 it was excellent in using but suddenly in September 2010 touch screen stop working without any misuse ,when send it to service they say I have to replace the screen with digitizer ,if this is common problem in HD2 then HTC must replace all faulty sets with new one free of charge

  • Stervon

My HD2 simply turns itself on and off. This happens whether the phone is in use or not. It’s been 5 days now since it’s been out of use due to this problem. Whenever this happens – it just continues until the battery dies.nnAlso, the speaker on my phone suddenly stopped working. This means I cannot have a conversation over speaker phone or listen music without the ear phones plugged in.nnReally disappointed.

  • HTCsucks

I HATE HTC HD2 i wasted 500 bucks on this freaking phone i want my money back… i don’t know what to do now since i spent sooo much money!!! rnWOW

  • DissappointedinYOU

HTC2 was a phone that with its BIG lcd window had promise. But the phone freezes, shuts down, it does not go online, it does not allow you to get pictures thru MMS safe yourself alot of grieve do not purchase it.

  • Okscal

I am going nuts about ma HD2. its freezes every other day cant go off, cant take no password and when i try to set it to vibration mode, it makes weird sounds or cant vibrate at all. This phone is a joke

  • Beauty5ied

I am seriously considering a class action lawsuit over this phone and the company doing NOTHING to satisfy it’s customers. If anyone is interested in goin in on it and gathering info with me please let me know; serious replies only. This phone should have definatly been recalled by now. ;o(

  • tin

I never have so much problem with a phone until I got this htc. I have to say that it a piece of trash. I call the Tech so much time already and they sent 3 replacement phone that is all the same. They just keep trading you from one bad used phone after another. It freeze, it drop most of the call. I have to call 3-4 times just to make a phone call. Today I can’t even make a phone call. The phone bottom does not respond. I’m paid $50 for a data plan the can’t connect 85% of the time. Is there something that we can get T-mobile to do about this instead of just sending use used replacement with the same problem?

    • Janice

Yes! I sick of this s*** too!! Christmas day after I paid the bill. It locked me out. I wanted to take picture of the gift opening and the snowfall, but no this piece of s*** lock up and nothing but grief. All my contacts/numbers program in this phone. All I could do is hear the texts come in and answer the phone can’t make any calls and see who’s texting. I believe they stealing our information. I should left a ass on it for them. I am pissed they f** off!!! Christmas for God sake!!!

  • Eccentr1cD

This phone is the worst phone I have ever had. It freezes, hangs up, drops calls with full coverage. I tried to get one that works sent to me and after two phones. And I still don’t have a phone that works. The first one worked for all of 4 hours and the second looked like it had been dunked in water. I mean the phone is till under warranty why can’t they not give me a phone that works. There offer is for me to resign a new contract and have to pay for yet another phone that who knows if it will work. Is anyone is willing to do a class action lawsuit please let me know.

  • JB567

I’ve had it a month and i hate it.nshocking: battery life, screen invisible in sunlight, typing slow and error ridden, confusing interfaces, if you read messages in inbox mode the text and tiny and cannot be resized. Browsing slow, occasional freezing, have to hit it to get screen to rotate, battery runs down overnight. This is not the future of phones. Luckily its a work freebee, but so annoying and clunky to use, never sure when its online or not, cant use a stylus with it, so a nightmare when browsing, try and click a button on a webpage, no chance… ITS RUBBISH !!

  • Pinapplepopo

before i complain let me say before my phone started locking up i ADORED it…. but now htc sense wont load and it locks my phone and i cant get past the lock screen…. everything is usless but the green and red call buttons to accept and hang up on someone … but i cant call out… so all its good for is accepting calls… i have a smart phone that could do everything now all i can do with it is accept calls…sigh… i even did the hard reset and deleted everything off my phone … so now its ugly and only able to accept calls…. it would be different if i were even stupid about the makings and how to fix my phone but if i cant get into it i cant fix it and i have tried… * breathing*…. maybe it will let me back in soon.

Someone here mentioned a class action suit. Is this still being planned? It needs to happen. I can testify as a professional software tester with 12 years of experience including telecom testing. I still have the phone, but plan to sell it and get a $50 phone which should work better..
