We have announced there is no Sprint device with HTC branding running Carrier IQ app, but still one is remaining — the HTC Evo Shift 4G. Nevertheless, the carrier quickly responded to the problem. The owners of the Evo Shift 4G have no reason to get upset as the carrier is currently pushing out an update, which will remove the tracking app from the device.
On the whole, the update is not mentioned as “Carrier IQ removing,” but Sprint says it’s a security update and as at the moment one of the most discussed and worrying problems is the existence of the Carrier IQ in 6.3 million HTC devices, we can easily conclude it is. The update also improves battery life and updates Peep client to align with Twitter. It brings the software version to 2.77.651.3.
The update is currently available for download over-the-air, so if you have not received a notification check it manually. Again, bravo Sprint!
