The HTC Desire is one of the most popular smartphones of the company, and when it was launched last year, it attracted consumers with many features we couldn’t find in many handsets that time. So the company decided to pay tribute to this handset by updating it to Gingerbread. Unfortunately, I have bad news for all North American users of the HTC Desire — the handset will not get an official Android 2.3 update, but instead you can download an official Gingerbread ROM.

According to an official statement, this ROM is not for the general public — it’s intended for development only.
Anyway, if you download it, you must be aware that all your customizations will be removed, moreover, you’ll lose all your data, wallpapers, operator applications and even the Facebook app. Of course, you can download the needed apps form Android Market again. These changes don’t refer to the SD card, as it won’t be changed or modified at all.
As I said earlier, this ROM is not intended for the U.S. version of the HTC Desire, and some Japanese, South Korean and German models of the handset are out of the list, too.
