A couple of days ago we wrote that the original HTC Desire will not get Gingerbread because of its memory limitations (they said 512 MB ROM chip isn’t enough for Android 2.3 and HTC Sense).
Now it seems like HTC has changed its mind. Here is what their Facebook page says now:
Contrary to what we said earlier, we are going to bring Gingerbread to HTC Desire.
So, Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be brought to the HTC Desire, after all, just like to all the other smartphones of the Desire family.
We have no idea what could have changed in a couple of days. Did the memory of the original HTC Desire become bigger? Or did the manufacturer understand they were wrong and the memory was enough? We’ll never find it out, I guess.
I don’t think an average user will notice any big difference between Android 2.2 Froyo and Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but I’m sure for the owners of the original HTC Desire it will be a good feeling to know their smartphones’ OS is of the latest version.
There are only two questions I have now. When will the update be rolled out? And – if there are really some memory problems – will Gingerbread work well on the original HTC Desire?
