How to Disable Sense User Interface

HTC Sense UI has become a breath of fresh air in the stagnant world of Windows Mobile. Visual interface from HTC brings ease of use of devices on the Microsoft platform software to a new level. However, at the same time, despite all the obvious positive qualities, Sense is not devoid of drawbacks. If you still want to disable the add on to the original interface of WinMo, then below you will find detailed instructions:

  • Click on the “Customize” tab of Sense.
  • In the lower right corner of the screen, click “Menu” and in the dropdown menu, select “All options”.
  • Click on the icon “first screen” (for WM 6.5) or go to the tab “Personal” and click on the “Today” (for WM 6.1).
  • Under the “Items” tab, select “Windows default” instead of HTC Sense (for WM 6.5) or remove the box “TouchFlo 3D” (for WM 6.1).
  • Click OK.

Then, downloading a free application Home Screen Customiser from the marketplace, you can customize the look of your desktop in WinMo, adding contacts there, as well as shortcuts to frequently used applications.

  1. To disable the sense interface on the HTC Eris:
from the home screen: Menu/Settings/Applications/Manage applications/HTC Sense (which is about 3/4 down) /Clear defaults

Once you do this, touch the home button. A screen will pop up “Complete action using”. Touch home and it will load the normal Android 1.5 cupcake. TA-DA. Touch the home button again and you can check the “use by default” box before touching home. I rebooted my phone just to make sure the sense interface is no longer open in the background.

If you want to go back to the sense interface:
    Menu/Settings/Applications/Manage applications/Home
touch “Clear defaults. touch the home button and select the sense interface as default.

Personally I think my phone functions better without the sense interface.

  3. there is no “Customize” tab of Sense for me to click. None of these instructions work on my HTC Touch Pro2

    • >there is no “Customize” tab of Sense for me to click. None of these instructions work on my HTC Touch Pro2 <
You are correct. These instructions do not work. It appears that without a custom ROM, you are stuck with the HTC Nonsense interface.

  4. Thanks, but I cannot see a Sense screen or option on my new HD2 (running the latest ROM) and so cannot Click on the “Customize” tab of Sense. I may be being dense, due to my unfamiliarity with my new HD2, but would you please supply more information or, better still, a screen shot, please. Thanks. David
