If you often use public transport, you’ll probably like Google’s new service based on Google Maps. The service, which is called Live Transit, will provide information on public transport. It will keep you informed when your train and bus will arrive, when it will reach the final stop, which road it will take, how much time your trip will take and so on.
So we’ll always be informed where the bus we’re waiting for is at the moment. Naturally, all vehicles have to be equipped with GPS trackers for the service to work properly.
According to the representatives of Google, the company had to team up with transport and travel agencies in several states and cities to be able to realize this feature. Initially the service will be available in the following cities:
Boston
Portland (Oregon)
San Diego
San Francisco
Madrid
Turin
Google says it is now negotiating with other cities and agencies to widen the service and to implement it in other states, too.At the moment Live Transit is available in the Google Maps for all devices based on Android 1.6 and above, so it will run without any problem on almost all HTC smartphones, since most of them are getting the latest Android updates. It also works with almost all mobile browsers and with the desktop version of Google Maps, too.
And here is an interesting video that will tell you more about the service.
