Yesterday HTC announced the source code to the kernel for the HTC Desire Z and G2. This news will help the ROM developers to customize phones’ ROMs and release them for HTC smartphones.
For those who don’t know, kernel is the main component of the operating systems of most computers, in other words, the kernel is a bridge between the apps the phone runs and actual data processing. It allows the users to manage the system resources, so a kernel can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for the resources, this means controlling the kernel the developers can manage the phone’s functionality of running software.
The source code usually is being held in one or in several text files, and a large collection of source code files may be organized into a directory tree, in which case it may also be known as a source tree.
As the HTC Desire Z and G2 basically are the same phones, and if we can get past the G2’s anti-customization scheme we also can see G2’s custom ROMs.
